* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not the
transcriber, or calls attention to additional information in the transcriber
notes.
? Question marks within the text indicate illegible handwriting or entries
obscured by other markings.
Families often have a single entry in a particular column with a bracket connecting
family members together. This may give the appearance, for example, as if a wife
and each individual child are traveling to join a husband when, in fact, the children
are joining their father.

Additional Information
The New York Times reported that the Lituania, originally scheduled to dock in New York
was diverted to Boston. 173 Polish immigrants were to be returned to Europe since the
Polish quota was now full.
The Boston Globe reported the arrival of the Lituania, with 350 immigrants and fifteen
American citizens. Peter Korman, a Pennsylvania coal miner who had gone to Russia to
search for his parents, told of his arrest in Russia, his exciting escape from jail, and
his clandestine train ride to the Latvian coast where he could book passage back to the
U.S. There were fifteen refugees from Lithuania, orphaned when their mothers were killed
in pogroms, now in charge of Polish schoolteacher Miss Fanny Feinsilver. Passenger Max
Rosenthal of New York, bringing family members in from Russia, reported on the terrible
out of control conditions in Poland saying that Jews are worse off now than during the
Russian regime. Another passenger, Sven V. Knudsen of Copenhagen, an official of the
Danish Boy Scouts was here to study the Boy Scout movement in the U.S.
The official instructions from Washington now allowed all passengers to land with the
exception of 99 Poles who will be held for the present, the Polish quota for the month
having already been filled.
The Boston Globe for July 15, 1921 reported that all 173 Polish immigrants would be
deported. The Polish quota for June, July and part of August has already arrived. The
authorities insist that the laws be strictly enforced.
