Transcriber's Notes:

* The name of the ship is Shakespeare, but it is listed as Shakspear when the captain
filled in the blanks on the Captain's statement.

The original lister numbered the passengers and signed the manifest at the end.
He listed everyone regardless of age, except the few cabin passengers, as Cultivators,
using dittoes down the columns.

An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which
further explains the entry.

A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the
quality of the document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's
Notes of what the letter/letters may be.

A circumflex (^) is used to indicate missing letters in a name or word. The original
lister showed this by writing the final letter smaller and raising it above the line.

The lister also used the "leading s", which appears at first glance to be an "f"
before the letter "s" when actually it signifies a double "s". The transcriber
has changed this where found.

3 Name could be Elos, Eloss, Eloy, Elsy.
13 and 14 Ruche, Resche. #14 Is the first name Heinrich?
16 This last name is obscured at the fold of the document. It is probably Franck.
17 Age was recorded as 3/4 years, changed to 9 months.
 19 Klein or Klem.
21 Kastz, Kast. The ending could merely be a flourish, or a 'z'.
29 Age was recorded as 1/2 years, changed to 6 months.
32 This passenger listed as a male, had a very feminine name. Is it really
Friederich? The name could possibly be Grossertz - the writer at times used a
flourish at the end of a name, but can't be sure it's not 'z'.
50 Age was recorded as 1/4 years, changed to 3 months.
 51 Meerssen, Meerssens.
56, 58 and 59 Carl, Jacob and Louis are all listed as a female. It appears that the
lister was a bit confused at this point.
68 Michael is listed as a female.
80 Surname is Ocker or Oecker.
83 Age was recorded as 9/12 years, changed to 9 months.
92 Age was recorded as 1/12 years, changed to 1 month.
99 Age was recorded as 2/12 years, changed to 2 months.
103 Age was recorded as 7/12 years, changed to 7 months.
115 and 116 Surname could be Vreis or Theis.
117 Surname could be Tonderchen, Tondercher, Vonderchen or Vondercher.
130 Id, Isg or Ist. Age was recorded as 3/4 years, changed to 9 months.
132 Age was recorded as 3/4 years, changed to 9 months.
138 It is assumed that this is the wife or daughter of the captain.

A communication to transcriber
Passenger #126, Johannes Luft, was a well known piano teacher and writer in the town of
Heubach, Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. While in the United States he lived for a time in
New York City. Later he lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He returned to Germany on
December 8, 1861. There are still many residents of Heubach with the name of Luft.
