2: This passenger, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, is better known as Mark Twain. He lived from
November 30, 1835 to April 21, 1910. Among his better known novels are "The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"". His first book,
"The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Caleveras County"" was published in 1867.
He worked as a printer, a steamboat pilot, a gold prospector, a journalist in Nevada
and San Francisco during the height of the Gold Rush, and as a renowned lecturer.
He was married to Olivia Langdon (1845 - 1904). They had 3 daughters, Susy (1872-1896),
Clara (1874-1862) and Jean (1880-1909). Click here for a brief biography of Mark Twain.
Mark Twain wrote five Travelogues, "describing his experiences in the western U.S.,
along the Mississippi, in Europe, the Mideast, and Asia ....".
