An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer. A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted. The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not numbered in the original manifest. The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons. 19 Surname is recorded as "Carll", but might possibly be "Carroll".
