If your ancestors arrived before 1800, you may have difficulty finding a passenger manifest. Some ports began indexing passenger manifests in 1800; New York began in 1820. Lists prior to that time are frequently compilations of other documents. Visit Genealogical Publishing Company for the largest collection of resource material, especially if your ancestors arrived early.

Transcriber's Notes:

The column, "Date and Cause of Death" was eliminated from this transcription as there were
no deaths on this passage. The "Location of compartment or space occupied" column was not
filled in, except to note two passengers who were Cabin passengers.

The original lister numbered the passengers, did a recapitulation and signed the document at
the end of the page. The recap does not add up with the number of passengers listed - it
is one too many.

An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which further
explains the entry.

A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the quality
of the document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's Notes of what
the letter/letters may be.

13 Surname: Sidell, Lidell. Age: This is overwritten. It appears he is either 26 years
    old or 46 years old.
17 The word "3 Children" has been crossed out. Further below on the list is one child -
#41, Mary Welsh, 7 years of age. She is noted as "Daughter to Mary Welsh above".
Below that entry are two other children, not with the same name, but the same age.
The girl is identified as "Daughter", but it is not clear if these are the children as
    recorded above.
31 It appears this passenger is mistakenly identified as a Female.
36 There is an "x" written next to the number on the list. At times, recorders used this
to denote someone who was ill on the voyage.
39 The name is clearly written as Johan, a male name, but it appears this passenger is a
female, widow. Perhaps the name should be Johana?
44 and 45 These names are written sideways along the last column, with no other information
recorded, except that they are American travellers.
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M237, Reel 221, List 739.
