Transcriber's Notes:
* Port of departure - Milford Haven is in Wales.
The column, "Date and Cause of Death" was eliminated from this transcription as there
were no deaths on this passage. The column, "Part of the vessel occupied during the
voyage" was abbreviated. Inter.Str. is Intermediate Steerage and Str.Aft is Steerage Aft.
The original lister numbered the passengers, but did not provide a recapitulation at the
end of the document, but it appears to be a complete manifest.
An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which
further explains the entry.
A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the
quality of the document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's
Notes of what the letter/letters may be.
A circumflex (^) is used to indicate missing letters in a name or word. The original
lister showed this by writing the final letter smaller and raising it above the line.
This ship has an interesting history. See: Great Eastern for more information and pictures.
24 The missing letters in this name are on the line, neither going above nor below the
line, as in the letters "n", "m", "u", "s". Possibly Grimmer or Grimner.
40 There is no first name listed for this passenger.
55 No age was listed for this passenger.
87 There is an "x" next to the name. At times, the scribe used this to indicate someone
who was ill on the voyage.
115 No first name was written in.
128 Middle name appears to be Lambrook
142 This name could end "-ard" or "-man". Possibilities are Bauman, Berman or Barnard.
It seems to be written hurriedly.
