If your ancestors arrived before 1800, you may have difficulty finding a passenger manifest. Some ports began indexing passenger manifests in 1800; New York began in 1820. Lists prior to that time are frequently compilations of other documents. Visit Genealogical Publishing Company for the largest collection of resource material, especially if your ancestors arrived early.

Transcriber's Notes:

The recorder's handwriting is very poor and in many cases cannot be deciphered
with certainty. Many of the transcribed names are the transcriber's best
estimates, but as a result errors in the transcription are quite likely.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
  definitely.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

National Archives and Records Administration, Film M237, Reel 276, List 126.
