Lists prior to that time are frequently compilations of other documents. I, W. R. Phillips, Master of the S.S. "City of Cork", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said S.S. "City of Cork" at Antwerp from which Port the said "City of Cork" has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

  *  There were 14 passengers on this voyage who died at sea probably from Cholera
     which can be inferred from the short article which appeared in the  New York
     Times on 19 November 1867 under the caption "CHOLERA IN BAY" which reads:
     "The following-named patients from the steamship City of Cork have been
     admitted to the hospital ship since last report:
        1. Guiseppe Krienbuhn, aged 17 years.
        2. Theodore Fleichter, aged 11 years.
        3. Maria Watterman, aged 18 years.
        4. Louisa Tourvant, aged 22 years.
        5. Louisa Touvant, aged 1 years.
        6. Jeane Touvant, aged 4 months.
        7. Rosian Kirkner, aged 24 years."
     The earlier report referred to above was searched for but never found.
