Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons. "Male" and "Female" in the
Sex column are shortened to "M" and "F" for the same reason.
It is apparent that the first page of the manifest was recorded by one person (through
passenger number 27)and the subsequent pages (including most of the German passengers)
recorded by another. The first recorder did not record the Sex of passengers. The
second recorder recorded the Sex, but omitted the Destination Country, possibly because
these passengers were all destined for the United States. Whereas the first recorder
listed Given Name first followed by the Surname, the second recorder reversed the order.
However, the Transcriber retained the format of the first recorder throughout the
transcription for consistency.
210-211 Second letter of surname is too faint to decipher, but name might possibly be
"Hammel" or "Hummel".
213 Given name or initial is obscured by an ink blot or other damage to the manifest.
227 Surname is either "Bethweiller" or "Bettweiller".
230 Surname appears to be written as "Beimaan", but might possibly be "Beinman".
241 Given name is obscured by an ink blot or other damage to the manifest.
242 Given name is partially obscured by an ink blot or other damage to the manifest.
First letter of surname is not clearly written and cannot be deciphered with
certainty, but name might possibly be "Trenger" or "Fenger".
250 Surname is either "Kettick" or "Kettich".
255 Last part of surname is too faint to decipher, but name might possibly be "Anderson"
or "Andresson".
257-263 Surnames are too faint to be read and deciphered.
266-273 Surnames and some given names are too faint to be read or are obscured by damage
to the manifest and cannot be deciphered.
279 Last part of surname is too faint and blurred to be deciphered.
281 Surname appears to be either "Stehle" or "Mehle".
284-285 Surname is either "Zarbauf" or "Zurbauf".
295 Surname is either "Mayer" or "Meyer".
308 Surname appears to be either "Beglsein" or "Begliem".
313 Surname is blurred and might possibly be "Tobler" or "Tobber".
320-321 First part of surname is blurred and too faint to decipher.
330 Surname appears to be written as "Dudls", but might possibly be "Dudts" or "Dudli".
335-339 Surname or part of surname is obscured by damage to the manifest.
343 Surname is either "Heller" or "Keller".
367 Surname appears to be written as "Lepese", but might possibly be "Lefiese".
378-380 Surname or part of surname is obscured by damage to the manifest.
387 Surname is too faint to read or decipher.
390 Surname is too faint to decipher with certainty, but name might possibly be
"Hellig", "Hettig", "Hertig" or "Kollig".
392-393 Surname appears to be either "Gateace" or "Gateau".
394 First part of surname is too faint and blurred to decipher with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Kottin" or "Rottin".
395 First part of surname is too faint and blurred to decipher with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Alaire" or "Klaire".
398 Given name is not clearly written and cannot be deciphered with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Jeld", "Jold", "Juld", "Zeld" or "Zald".
