Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons. "Male" and "Female" in the
Sex column are shortened to "M" and "F" for the same reason.
It is apparent that the first page of the manifest was recorded by one person (through
passenger number 27)and the subsequent pages (including most of the German passengers)
recorded by another. The first recorder did not record the Sex of passengers. The
second recorder recorded the Sex, but omitted the Destination Country, possibly because
these passengers were all destined for the United States. Whereas the first recorder
listed Given Name first followed by the Surname, the second recorder reversed the order.
However, the Transcriber retained the format of the first recorder throughout the
transcription for consistency.
6 Surname is recorded as "Borraw", but might possibly be "Barrow".
16 The last half of surname is not clearly written and cannot be deciphered.
17 Given name is recorded as "Ester", but might possibly be "Esther".
20 Surname appears to be either "Stirling" or "Sterling".
30-31 Surnames are obscured by an ink blot or damage to the manifest in
this area and cannot be deciphered.
35-42 Names are obscured by an ink blot or damage to the manifest in
this area and cannot be deciphered.
45 Surname appears to be either "Jochum" or "Jocheim", but might possibly be "Joachim".
53 Surname appears to be either "Batins" or "Batius".
58 Surname is very faint and cannot be deciphered with certainty, but name
might possibly be "Hisegals", "Hegel" or "Hoegel".
60-61 Surname is possibly "Husg", "Thusg" or "Theisg".
74 Surname is either "Grenthes" or "Gunther".
84 There is an umlaut above the "u" in surname "Busser".
102 There is an umlaut above the "u" in surname "Burkard".
103 Surname is very faint and cannot be deciphered with certainty, but name
might possibly be "Egleimk".
111 Surname appears to be written as "Lofflez", but might possibly be "Loffler".
122 Surname appears to be either "Bom" or "Born".
141 Surname is possibly "Kughes", "Kugles" or "Kugler".
154 Second letter of surname is very faint and cannot be deciphered.
155-161 Names are obscured by an ink blot or damage to the manifest in this area and
cannot be deciphered.
162-163 First letter of surname is too faint to decipher with certainty, but name
might possibly be "Gikerlin".
172 Surname is either Bargart" or "Burgart".
186 Given name is partially obscured by damage to the manifest and cannot be deciphered.
190 First half of surname is blurred and faint and cannot be deciphered with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Mesinger" or "Misinger".
191 Last half of surname is blurred and faint and cannot be deciphered with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Sexarer" or "Sexacer".
192 First half of surname is blurred and faint and cannot be deciphered with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Serger" or "Seeger".
193 Passengers age is either 18 or 28.
200 Surname appears to be either "Krun" or "Krien".
