If your ancestors arrived before 1800, you may have difficulty finding a passenger manifest. Some ports began indexing passenger manifests in 1800; New York began in 1820. Lists prior to that time are frequently compilations of other documents. Visit Genealogical Publishing Company for the largest collection of resource material, especially if your ancestors arrived early.

I, E. Frangeul, Master of the Steamship Canada, do solemnly, sincerely and truly (left blank) that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said Steamship Canada at Havre & Plymouth from which port said Steamship Canada has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

 23: the last name could be Manjin.
 24: Accent mark above the "o" in Leon.
 26: no first name given.
 32: Accent mark above the "e" in Andre.
 34: Accent mark above the first "e" in Anesime.
 45: Noel is spelled with an accent on the e.
 58: Frederic is spelled with an accent on both e's.
 71: Frederic is spelled with an accent on both 3's.
 74: Given name is female as is sex but the clerk indicates passenger  is male by the M.
