I, David Caulkins, Master of the Ship Arkwright do solemnly, sincerely, and truly affirm that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on Board the said ship at Liverpool from which port the said ship has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the names and ages of those who died. The space occupied by the passenger has been abbreviated by the transcriber. The original listed the space as "Upper between decks". The original lister did not number the passengers and did not provide a recapitulation at the end of the Manifest, but it appears to be complete and there seem to be no passengers whose name is wiped out or missing between folds of the document. An asterisk (*) is used to refer to an item in the transcriber's notes, which further explains the entry. A question mark (?) is used for letter/letters that cannot be read because of the quality of the document. Where possible a suggestion is given in the Transcriber's Notes of what this letter/letters may be. 40 This passenger's occupation is that of Machine winder. 42 This passenger's occupation is that of Machine winder. 48 Actual age is 1-1/2 yr. 65 This passenger's occupation is Auctioneer. 90 Passenger is listed as a Stewardess.
