I, William Weir, Master of the Steamship "Western Metropolis", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Steamship at Bremen and Cowes from which Ports the said Steamship has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

Transcriber's Notes:

* The usual route for the S.S. Western Metropolis was from Breman, Germany via Southampton,
England and indeed she might have traveled this route on this her last voyage.
See next Note.

* The last voyage of the S.S. Western Metropolis started on 24th Aug.1867 and on 8 September
1867 she arrived at Cowes, Isle of Wight with a broken shaft and was delayed for nearly a
month for repairs. She left Bremen on her final crossing to Southampton and New York on
20 October 1867 having made a total of four round voyages on the North Atlantic route.
By this tine, ocean going paddle steamers were out of date and she was sold in 1869.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.

The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as
"Merch" or "Mercht" for Merchant, "Mech" for Mechanic and "Labr" for Laborer.

The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons. "Male" and "Female" in the
Sex column are shortened to "M" and "F" for the same reason.

68 Surname is possibly "Hatzinger" or "Statzinger".
73-76 Surname is possibly "Abeler", "Abebe", "Abeh".
80 Surnam is possibly "Maher" or "Kraher".
