I, E. Howes, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Ship Siddons whereof I am Master, from Liverpool.

A circumflex (^) is used to indicate missing letters in a name. The original lister
showed this by writing the final letter smaller and raising it above the line.
The original lister recorded the names as given name and then surname; the
transcriber has reversed this order for ease in alphabetizing and reference.
There is no real recapitulation at the end of the Manifest; however, the lister
has scrawled 396 - 24 = 372. There were actually 397 passengers, but the last
one was written in a different handwriting. What these figures signify is not
known.
