I, Wm Hathaway, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Ship Rhone whereof I am Master, from Havre.

Transcriber's Notes:
This manifest is in poor condition. It is very lightly written and at times there
are dark spots over the page. It appears that the manifest was folded and it has
worn away at the creases, leaving a dark blob at times (when copied), which makes
it impossible to read the name. Fortunately, the surnames were repeated for
family members. Unfortunately, it appears that the original lister recorded the
first surname and given name and then only the given names of those of the same
family. Someone else added the surname to these subsequent listings at a later time
and did it very carelessly.
*The Column, "Died on Voyage" was omitted since there were no deaths on
board.
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or letters which are not readable because
of the poor quality of the document. Where possible, a suggestion is made in the
transcriber's notes of what this letter or letters may be. Due to the condition of
the manifest, there were many that just were not able to be read.
An asterisk (*) is to refer to the transcriber's notes, where something is
explained in further detail.
The numbering was done by the transcriber, not by the original lister. It is
possible, therefore, that a passenger is missing, especially at the point where
the document is worn and black.
4 This surname may be Laurens, as the above one, but carelessly written.
Julius Laurens? Other possibilities: Lanneras, Launeras, Lanueras
15 It is presumed that this person's name is Mr Louis Bousquet, and is
related to and traveling with the passener above.
17&18 One can surmise these names are Jonte, since they are from France and
are manufacturers and 19-27 are all from France and also listed as
manufacturers. The page has a dark blob in this area.
34&35 The name is probably Baugnon. Whoever was given the responsibility of
copyng the surnames did a poor job. Believe this is the wife & son of
passenger #33.
37 It is presumed that this is the son of #36 and that his name is Christophe
Faure.
56-61 The family name is not clear on the first one - the one that the original
lister recorded. It is too light to be read; however, the succeeding ones
are all similar, although not exact, as was the habit of the person who was
given the job of adding the surnames to the list. Misselin appears to be
the correct name. #60 is probably Georg. #61 is probably Barbara, although
the fourth letter looks like "d".
62-71 The first surname is clearly written "Block" and the succeeding ones are
Bloach; however, in view of the person who copied these names being so
careless, it is a good bet that the family name is actually Block.
72 Benclair, Benclain
80 It is probable that this passenger's surname is Mullin. The listing is at
point where the document is destroyed.
85-89 The original surname listing is not clear. It could be Fishese, Fishuse,
Fishere, Fishure. The subsequent surnames, added by another, seem to be
Fishure or Fishuse. #89's name has been written between the lines and
also has a note: "born July 1st, 1832"
90-92 The original lister clearly listed "Hoft", the person who added the
surnames wrote "Hofft".
93 Klaz or Klez
99-101 A portion of the first surname is destroyed and the first letter of the
succeeding surnames is not able to be read. Possibilities are: Houchard,
Bouchard, Gouchard, Fouchard or Mouchard
103 & 104 The first given name may be Maria - it's very difficult to read and
the sex is not able to be read either. Surname is either Betzer or Bitzer.
116 Stollen or Stallen.
106 Margaret or Marguarite.
117-118 The original lister recorded Burnn; it became Burns when copied.
Either could be a Swiss name.
123 Surname possibliites: Cheremins, Cheremuns. All letters are on the line
and could be a comination of "u", "m", "n" and "s"
125-127 Surname possibilites: Margesse, Magesse, Maquese, Marquese
128 & 129 Original lister listed Luginbeuhl, it was copied as Luginbul.
136 Surname possibly begins with "M". Maltew?
