SS Rhenania
I, H. Barends, Master of the S.S. Rhenania do solemnly, sincerely, and truly certify that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Rhenania at Hamburg from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and the names and the ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. Correspondence added 8-30-2006, passengers GOEDKE Passenger #50, Albert Goedke is my grandfather who was 7 yrs. old when making the trip from Prussia to the US. The last name was changed to Gode ( I presume when they arrived) which is my last name. The other oddity is that they came as a group with Albert being the oldest at 7 years and the youngest, Carl, at 6 months. They evidently came with at least one adult but who is not known. My name is Charles Gode, born in Chicago, Illinois. I was named after my grandfather whose full name was Charles Albert Gode. My sister Dorothy remembers Bertha and we have at least one old family photo of Bertha and our grandfather. I am the last of this lineage as there are no other Gode's of this family.
