* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not

in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
Baviera -- an old written form of Bavaria.
1 - 7 the first letter of this name looks like a "H" to me but could
be a "K". KANNY
6 - 10 this first letter could be a "B". Comparing this letter to
others on the manifest I find nothing simular, the writing starts at the
top line swings down half waythen up forming a "f" which is written all
above the bottom line, then ends and "berte".
11, 12, 13 This surname The "De--ald" is very clearly written, I am almost
sure that the middle two letters are "rr" but could be "n". DENALD
37 This first letter looks like a lower case "t" with an "o or e" attached to
the "t", no other letter like this to compare to on the manifest.
40 The last letter of the surmane could be a "e or D".
45 This name is written as Newhaufson, but it should be ss, a case of the
"long s".
47 - 53 First letter of this surname is "P" then it could be an "e"
then "rr" or "ir" or "is" then "ch" or "ih". PERRCH, PEIRCH, PEISCH,
PERRIH, PEIRIH, OR PEISIH.
61 - 70 I read this name as Steel, but after the "S" I am not sure
if there is two "tt's" or a "te" the second "e and l" is there. STTEL
or STEEL.
71 The first leter of this surmane is probably a "S" but does not have the
frilly curls other "S's" on this manifest have.
72, Canemeyer, the forth letter of this name looks like an "e" but there is
a curl swinging up from the base of the "e" simular to the way the scribe
makes his "d's".
77 - 80 This name starts with a "K" but the name is simular to
Passengers # 1 through 5.
96 This letter could be either a "G or S" when compared to other handwritting
on the pages of this manifest.
