Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing only the
first few letters of the name, followed sometimes by a period but many times
without it, e.g., Jos for Joseph, Fr. for Friedrich, Henr for Henrich, Bernh for
Bernhard, etc. For some names the recorder abbreviates it by writing the first few
letters then skipping letters and then writing the final letter (which is sometimes
superscripted), i.e., Henre or Henr^e for Henriette, Wilhe or Wilh^e for Wilhelmine,
Magda for Magdelena, and Joh^a for Johanna, etc.
The recorder did not use ditto marks to indicate "same as above". Many sex and
occupation entries are left blank and the reader is confronted with the problem of
interpreting the recorder's intended meaning. The transcriber uses the sex last
entered for a passenger above, and correlates this interpretation with whether the
passenger has a masculine or feminine given name. Occupations are only given in
the transcription if the recorder entered them. Since it was common for recorders
not to make an entry in the occupation column for female passengers or for children,
a possible though not a certain interpretation of the intended occupation where
left blank is that of the occupation of the last adult male entered above.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as
"Merch" for Merchant, "Mech" for Mechanic and "Labr" for Laborer.
2-4 Surname appears written as "Vay", but might possibly be "Voy".
7 Surname appears to be written as "Fenger", but might possibly be "Fenzer".
10 Surname is either "Steingrober" or "Steingraber".
27-29 Surname is possibly "Tevfnow", "Terfnow" or "Tessnow".
29 A notation associated with this infant passenger states that he "Died" on
the voyage. The date, time and cause of death are not recorded.
84-85 Surname appears to be written as "Kayatz", but might posibly be "Kayotz".
87-88 Surname appears to be written as "Lass", but might possibly be "Loss".
95-99 Surname appears to be written as "Grapentin", but might possibly
be "Gropentin".
104-108 Surname is overwritten and cannot be deciphered with certainty, but name
appears to be either "Michael" or "Michall".
126 Surname is possibly "Gishler", "Gashler" or "Goshler".
127-128 Surname is faint and difficult to decipher, but might possibly be either
"Balow" or "Beilow".
156 Surname is posssibly "Grolebe", "Grobbe" or "Grotebe".
159 Middle name initial is either "S" or "L".
164 Surname is possibly "Jaquw", "Jazuw", "Jaguw", "Jagow" or "Jogow".
166-167 Surname is either "Lexow" or "Lexaw".
