SS Nebraska

I, James Guard, Master of the S.S. "Nebraska", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Ports the said Vessel has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

Transcriber's Notes:

  A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be 
  transcribed definitely.

  An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the 
  manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

  A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

  The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not 
  numbered in the original manifest.

  The recorder of the manifest often uses an abbreviated version of a passenger's given
  name, such as "M^l" for Michael, "D^l" or "Dan^l" for Daniel, "E^d" for Edward, 
  "Jno" for John, "Marg^t" or "Mg^t" for Margaret and "Jas" for James.

  The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as 
  "Merch" or "Mercht" for Merchant, "Mat^n" for Matron, "Labr" for Laborer, "Spin" or
  "Spins" for Spinster and "Gent" for Gentleman.

  The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
  is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons. "Male" and "Female" in the
  Sex column are shortened to "M" and "F" for the same reason.

 60      Surname is recorded as "McCanna", but might possibly be "McCann" or "McKenna".
 87      Surname is "Marstroan" or "Marstrom".
114      Surname is possibly "Seckmoller", "Seitmoller" or "Sukmoller".
115      Surname is either "Hausen" or "Hansen".
150      Letters of surname are not carefully formed and cannot be deciphered with
         certainty, but name might possibly be "Brue".
157      Only the first letter "A" of the surname is decipherable with certainty. 
168      Surname is either "Fairsewier" or "Fairservier".
169      Surname is either "Matron" or "Matrow".
194      Passenger's Age is either 7 or 17.
196      Surname is either "Castello" or "Costello".
199-201  Surname is either "Gabh" or "Gabt".
203      Surname appears to be written as "McCarin", but might possibly be "McCarn"
         or "McCarron".
212      Surname is recorded as "Feelly", but might possibly be "Feely".

         or "Dougher".
