Ship Mississippi
I, J C Gustavas, Master of the Ship Mississippi, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said Ship at Rotterdam, from which port said Ship has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each passenger, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.
So Help Me God.

Correspondence added January 22,2006, passengers 8-11, 22 and 24, VERHAGE
My direct ancestor, Bastiaan Verhage, passenger #24, was traveling on this ship from
Dirksland (in the Netherlands) to Michigan. Two of his brothers (also from Dirksland)
were onboard; Aaron (Aren, Arendt; passenger #8) who was traveling with his wife and two
children, and Marteen, (Maarten, Martin; passenger #22), who died on the voyage.
Bastiaan and Aaron settled in Ottawea County, Michigan. On July 1, 1854 two other brothers,
Cornelius ((Cornelis) and Teunis (Tunis) emmigrated from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on
the ship Isabella. They joined Bastiaan and Aaron in Michigan. Family stories say that their
widowed mother immigrated also. One record shows she had a different last name after a second
marriage. The age is appropriate for passenger #12, but as the record is unreadable it is not
much to go on. Thank you for your time and efforts. Sincerely, Linda Henderson
