Ship Marquette


Liverpool, England to New York
16 September 1858

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, James Watts Master of the Ship Marquette do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by Me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York,is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Ship at Liverpool from which port said Ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

List or Manifest OF ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the Ship Marquette whereof Watts is Master, from Liverpool burthen 1198 79/95 tons.
Columns represent: Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, The country to which they severally belong, The country to which they intend to become inhabitants, Died on the Voyage, and Part of the Vessel occupied by each passenger during the voyage. The Destination for all passengers was United States and no deaths were recorded on the voyage; these columns have been omitted from the transcription.

 4  Sex illegible because of ink smear, based on first name, is female.
 9-10  First names lined out, surname omitted, could be Ward, no other information recorded.
20  Sex recorded originally as Child, lined out.
25  Another name had been written on this line and lined out, name is not clear, P????li.
26  6th letter(s) of surname not clear, could be Phlejeen or Phlejun.
31  Ending of Occupation illegible.
37  Surname omitted, no ditto marks, could be Macewzey.
39  Last letter of surname not clear, could be Batter or Battes.
