The departure port of Sligo is located on the northwest Atlantic coast of Ireland. The Ship Josephine is additionally on the ISTG, Vol. 6, as having sailed from Belfast Dec. 8, 1827, with 81 passengers. 31 could be McLoughlin 60 is marked as “spinster” although obviously male. 95 & 95 are marked female although obviously male. There are five entries in the column “Died during the voyage”. These are: 10, Robert Ray; the number 1 is written 12, John West; the number 2 is written 31, John Garretty; the number 3 is written 82, William Ferguson; the number 4 is written 123, Michael Gallager; the number 5 is written. As William Ferguson is known as an ancestor to Bill Rose, Pinehurst, NC, the interpretation that these numbers mean deaths is incorrect. What this sequence means is unknown. William Ferguson, pass. # 82, is the GGGGrand Father of William Rose, Pinehurst, NC. He was born in County Mayo about April 22, 1816, and came to New York City from Sligo, Ireland, arriving June 23, 1834. He was naturalized a USA citizen August 4, 1840, in Tippicanoe County, IN. He was a farmer living to the age of 92. He had four daughters, one of whom is the GGGrand Mother of William Rose.
