DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, H D Cutting, Master of the S.S. "Helvetia", do solemnly,
sincerely, and truly (blank) that the following List or Manifest, subscribed
by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the
Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the
Passengers taken on board the said Steam Ship at Liverpool and Queenstown from
which Ports the said SS "Helvetia" has now arrived; and that on said List is
truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said
passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the
country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by
each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth
the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and
ages of those who died.

Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first few
letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter as
superscripted. In these cases, the transcriber uses the symbol (^) to indicate that
the following letter is superscripted, i.e., Tho^s for Thomas, Sam^l for Samuel,
W^m for William, etc. Othertimes, the recorder abbreviates names by writing the
first few letters, skipping letters and then adding the final letter of the name,
i.e., Patk for Patrick, Hy for Henry, Thos for Thomas, etc..
In the column for recording a passenger's Age, the recorder sometimes wrote "a" for
Adult or "c" for Child instead of the exact Age of the passenger.
The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons.

301 Surname is recorded as "McQuilliam", but might possibly be "McQuillian",
"McQuillin" or "McQuillan".
374 Surname is recorded as "Morrisay", but might possibly be "Morrisey".
378 Surname is recorded as "Burk", but might possibly be "Burke".
387-388 Surname is recorded as "Pechley" or "Puhley", but might possibly
be "Peckley".
454 Surname is recorded as "Stephans", but might possibly be "Stephens".
459 Surname is recorded as "Bradenach", but might possibly be "Broderick".
465 Surname is possibly "Luman", "Lunan", "Lunnan", "Linnan" or "Lennan".
