DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, J. Edmondson, Master of the Steamship Hecla, do solemnly,
sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by
me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection
District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken
on board the said Steamship Hecla at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Ports
the said Steamship Hecla has now arrived; and that on said List is truly
designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers,
the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to
which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to
become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the
number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages
of those who died.

Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, occupation,
the country to which they severally belong, the country of which they intend
to become inhabitants, and the part of the vessel occupied during the voyage.

Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first
few letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter
as superscripted. In these cases, the transcriber uses the symbol (^) to indicate
that the following letter was superscripted, i.e., Mich^l for Michael, Marg^t for
Margaret, W^m for William, etc.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as
"Merch" or "Merch^t" for "Merchant", "Gent^n" for Gentleman and "Lab" for Laborer.
The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons. "Male" and "Female" in the
Sex column are shortened to "M" and "F" for the same reason.

2 Surname is recorded as "Mary", but might possibly be "Marry".
14-19 Surname is recorded as "Brannd", but might possibly be "Brandt".
111 Surname appears to be written as "Wiekert", but might possibly be "Wickert".
120 Surname is either "Klonk" or "Klouk".
124 Surname is either "Boch" or "Bach".
146-147 Surname is recorded as both "Hiebman" and as "Heibman".
152 Surname is recorded as "Schwengortt", but might possibly be "Schwengott".
155 Surname is either "Buzart" or "Burzart".
190-191 Surname is possibly "Mowzer", "Mouzer" or "Monzer".
217 Surname is either "Henwood" or "Hinwood".
220 Surname is not carefully written and cannot be deciphered.
226 Surname is recorded as "Dyer", but might possibly be "Dwyer".
233 Surname is not carefully written and cannot be deciphered with certainty,
but name might possibly be "Kerib" or "Keub".
234-235 Surname is recorded as "Conin", but might possibly be "Cronin".
256 Surname appears to be either "Augur" or "Angur".
