DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, R. W. Grace, Master of the S.S. "France", do solemnly, sincerely,
and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and
now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District
of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board
the said S.S. "France" at Liverpool via Queenstown from which Ports the said S.S. "France"
has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex,
and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied
by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the
country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said
List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died
on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

on this voyage.

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The Occupation of every passenger in steerage class whether male, female, child or
infant is listed as "Labourer". The transcriber believes this was done solely as
for the recorder's convenience and likely has little or no correlation to the
passengers' actual Occupations.
12 Given name is obscured by damage to the manifest and is not decipherable
with certainty, but name might possibly be "Henry".
17 Surname is recorded as "Moyan", but might possibly be "Moylan".
20-25 Surname is recorded as "Coulfield", but might possibly be "Caulfield".
26 Surname is recorded as "McEnis", but might possibly be "McEnnis",
"McGinnis" or "McGuinness".
37 Surname is either "Lugar" or "Lugan".
38 Both given name and surname are obscured by damage to the manifest and
cannot be deciphered with certainty, but the given name is possibly "Henry"
and the surname possibly "Wall".
39 Surname appears to be written as "Meuck", but might possibly be "Menck".
50 A notation associated with this child passenger states that she "Died
January 22nd of Diptheria". The date of her death however is more likely
December 22nd since the ship arrived at the Port of New York on January 3rd.
51 Surname is recorded as "Donelly", but is more likely "Donnelly".
52 Surname appears to be written as "Mifes", but might possibly be "Myers".
53 Surname is either "Bird" or "Bud" with an umlaut above the "u".
