SS Devonia
I, Hugh Young, Master of the Steam-Ship Devonia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said S. S. Devonia at Glasgow for which port said Devonia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

The original lister numbered this manifest. He also recorded the information as
first name, then surname. This was reversed by the transcriber to surname, then
first name, for ease in alphabetizing.

settled in McKeesport PA, where he worked in a steel mill. His wife,
Mary Burns Ferguson came to the United States a few months later on
the S S Bolivia. They had five surviving children: James b. 9-9-1873,
John b. 4-14-1876, Margaret b. 5-4-1881 (m. Arthur Wood), Isabella
b. 11-19-1887 (m. Robert Dudley Payne) Lora Lee Ament.
