RMSS City of Chester
I, Robert Leitch, Master of the RMSS City of Chester, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said RMSS City of Chester at Liverpool and Queenstown from which Port the said City of Chester has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said Passengers, the part of the Vessel occupied by each during the passage, the Country to which each belongs, and also the Country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that the said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

The original writer of the passenger list used ditto marks and perhaps did not heed the actual country each passenger emigrated from. 11, 12 A water mark has obliterated the last digit of passenger ages. 56 Twelve year old passenger is listed as 'wife'. 227 This letter is obliterated by the downstroke 'g' of the previous name. 252 Not sure of first letter in name; but it is followed by 'riah'. 264 Male passenger is listed as 'wife'. 272 First name is missing. 385 Illegible letter in name. 401, 402, 403 The family designations are mixed up in this family. 407, 412 Female passengers are listed as 'gent'. 413, 414, 415, 416, 417, 418 Male passengers are listed as 'f/female'. 424 Not sure of first name; whether it is a first name or a priest designation.
