Correspondence added 12/02/2006, passengers LUTTIG
Passenger #40, C. H. Luttig, is my great-grandfather. He was not
draftable into the German army because he had only one eye. He came to the U.S.,
became a citizen and lived in Nebraska on his homestead with his wife and
8 children. He spoke broken English. After his wife died in 1910, he moved
(with his 8 children) to Kansas to be near his brother and family. His brother
is passenger #41, August Luttig, an older child. Family legend is that
August wished to avoid being drafted by the Kaiser and so dressed as a girl.
