Beside the date of the Sworn Statement 21st is written. This is also the date on the cover sheet.
The pages on this film are not numbered so finding a particular ship can be difficult.
However, there is a system of numbering the manifests that is a part of the National
Archives file system on Chinese persons. These numbers are included in the identification
of the film and reel numbers below.
For passengers bound for San Francisco, passengers' names and ages are followed by a stamp
that varies depending on the disposition of the passenger.
Passengers allowed to land have the following stamp:
Landed Collectors order (blank with a month and day date written in) 1897 by Insp's (blank
for a name, in this case O'Leary).
Passengers not allowed to land have one of two different stamps:
Landing Refused Habeas Corpus U.S.D.C. Case followed by a number. These passengers were
probably allowed to land, but not to freely enter the country. The National Archives
should have a file for these passengers describing what happened to them.
Landing Refused Departed Per Steamer ______ (name of ship) _________ (date).
For passengers bound for a further port there are two possible dispositions:
Landed "I.T." Transit List followed by a number
Departed Per Steamer ______ (name of ship) _________ (date)
The numbers in the Age column are arranged in two separates colums, titled Male and
Female. This is transcribed as a separate Sex column.
Occupation is Grocer for all passengers except as noted below.

San Benito is an island off the coast of Baja Cailfornia in Mexico. Salina Cruz is on
the Pacific coast of Mexico.
According to the National Archives branch in San Bruno, California it is possible that they have
some information on any Chinese passenger who arrived in San Francisco after 1886.
34 Occupation is "to join her husband." Inspectopr is Lynch.
35 Occupation is "with mother #720." Inspectopr is Lynch.
36 Occupation is "to join her husband."
37 Occupation is "to join her husband."
43 Occupation is "with his cousin #23."
44 Occupation is "with her uncle #23."
45 Age is 27 or 29.
55 Occupation is "with his cousin #39."
68 First name is Mar or Man.
71 First name is probably Chen but could be Cher.
78 Occupation is "with his brother #64."
88 Occupation is "with his uncle #27." This appears to be passenger #14.
