Correspondence added November 11, 2005, passengers 1-9 MULDOON

I am happy to provide you with some information about this
MULDOON family, who are ancestors of my wife. Francis and his
wife Eliza are my wife's great-great-grandparents. (A few of the details
do not match what we know about these people, but the list of names and
ages is such a close fit that we are sure these are the right people.)

Francis and Eliza were both from Ireland but moved to England where they
married at St Peter's Chapel (Roman Catholic) on 14th Jan., 1844.
Francis was a Provision Dealer (perhaps a greengrocer) in Liverpool.

After they arrived in the USA, they had at least one more child, a
daughter Susan, who we believe to have been born in St Louis about 1862.

They returned to England some time before the 1871 British census (2nd
April 1871) where Francis was once more a provision dealer in Liverpool.
The two sons John and Thomas became mariners (John, my wife's
great-grandfather was a ship's steward). Both Francis and Eliza died in
Liverpool, Francis in 1895, Eliza in 1873.

John married Margaret HALE in Liverpool in 1869 and their daughter Sarah
Louisa MULDOON (b. 15 Sep. 1875) married my wife's grandfather Thomas
James Alfred BUTLER in Liverpool in 1900.

Well, I hope that the above is sufficient information. We have been
searching for about 3 years trying to find when this family sailed to
the USA, having found them on the UK censuses of 1851 and 1871 (and
later) and knowing that they had a child in the USA.

Once again, thank you for performing this transcription and to the ISTG
for making it available. (Now we have to search for their return to
England.)

Passenger no. 3, Sarah MULDOON, is most unlikely to have been the
daughter of Francis and Mrs (Eliza) MULDOON. She may perhaps have been a
sister of Francis. To date, the only known record of her is the one on
the manifest of The Baltic. It is possible that she may have remained in
the USA when Francis and family returned to England.

Regards,

Arthur Pye
