I, W.H.P. Hains, Master of the RMS Aurania do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port said vessel has now arrived, and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, calling, country of citizenship, native country, location of compartment or space occupied, intended destination or location, number of pieces of baggage, and date and cause of death of passengers, as required by the Passenger Act of 1882; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. 223 - the letters in the occupation are poorly formed. It may be Engineer or Engraver.
231,232 - surname may be Wheeter,Wherter or Whuter.
239 - middle initial could be N.
247 - given name may be Alfred.
261 - given name may be Lillie.
275, 276 - passenger's surnames are clearly written as Group and Troup respectively.
The coincidence of the similarity of the names raises the possiblilty that one
of them was either heard or written incorrectly, so that both names may be Troup
or both may be Group. The 1900 Federal Census does show a William Troup, granite cutter
and a Robert Troup, stone cutter, both originally from Scotland in Vermont.
299 - surname may be Luth or Lieth. The first numeral in the age is covered by a dark area.
May be 28.
300 - surname may be Luth or Lieth. Age is covered by a dark area. May be 26.
302 - surname may be Apostog,Ap?stoy, or Apostoy. Given name could be Partzuris.
303 - surname may be Ha??ark. The question marks represent two or three letters that are
low and angular as seen in the letters n,m,r,v and u.
304 - surname could be McGlarey, McGlavey, McGluvey, or McGlurey.
305 - given name could be Marie.
306 - surname may be Hoan.
315 - occupation could be Mileworker.
317 - surname may be Word.
318 - given name may be Honoria.

356 - surname may be Mara. The first stroke of the first letter is visible, but the rest

followed by what appears to be a c, then two more rounded dark spots. Surname could

394 - surname may be Keily,Kiely,Keely.

409 - given name appears to begin with Mi, followed by a series of three small peaks, a taller
peak and finally, two smaller peaks, the last ending with a small upward stroke.
414 - surname could by Mensley.
417,418,419 - surname could be Wally.
425 - given name may be Mary.
426 - the surname is written in such a way as to appear that the t may have been written
over by an s, or an s written over by a t. It is also possible that there is an s
nestled right up against the base of the t. Therefore, the surname could be Simpton
or Simptson.
432 - given name could be Mary.
437 - a hole in the original manifest obliterates the end of the surname and most of the
first numeral of the age. There is at least one letter following the r in the surname.
It appears to be a short letter rather than a tall one. It is impossible to know if
there are any other letters. The age may be 35 or 25.
438,439 - the notation do indicates the surname for these passengers is the same as that of
437.
440 - surname could be Corpe.
