I, Jeff^n Maury, Master of the Steamship "Arizona", do solemnly,
sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by
me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection
District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken
on board the said Steamship "Arizona" at Aspinwall U.S.C. from which Port the
said Steamship has now
arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the
occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each
during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of
which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or
Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said
Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

Transcriber's Notes:
A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed
definitely.
An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.
A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.
The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not
numbered in the original manifest.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first few
letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter as
superscripted. In these cases, the transcriber uses the symbol (^) to indicate that
the following letter is superscripted, i.e., Tho^s for Thomas, Cha^s for Charles,
W^m for William, etc. Othertimes, the recorder abbreviates names by writing the
first few letters, skipping letters and then adding the final letter of the name,
i.e., Patk for Patrick, Margt for Margaret, Thos for Thomas, etc..
"Male" and "Female" in the Sex column are shortened to "M" and "F" for formatting
reasons.
The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as
"Merch^t" for Merchant, "Mech^c" for Mechanic, "Labr" for Laborer, "Gent" for
Gentleman and "Inft" for Infant.
The complete recorded entry for compartment occupied, truncated in the above
transcription for formatting reasons, includes the following:
Passengers 1-21: "In State Rooms on Hurricane Deck Abaft the Wheels"
Passengers 22-60: "In State Rooms on Upper Deck Abaft the Wheels
Passengers 61-132: "In State Rooms on Main Deck Abaft the Wheels"
Passengers 133-219: "In State Rooms and Open Berths on Main Deck Forward
of the Wheels".
4 Given name appears to be either "Thilo" or "Philo".
80-82 Passengers' Occupation appears to be written as "Drovier" or "Drowier", but
the recorded might possibly have intended Drover, one who drives cattle.
95 Surname is possibly "Lawplough" or "Landplough".
98 Passenger's Occupation is recorded as "Deallar" or "Pedlar", but the
recorder might possibly have intended "Dealer" or "Peddler".
123 Surname is recorded as "Niel", but might possibly be "Neil" or "Neill".
124 Surname is recorded as "Hefferman", but might possibly be "Hefferan"
or "Heffernan".
127 Surname is recorded as "McArthur", but might possibly be "MacArthur".
136 Surname is either "Celle" or "Calle".
137 Surname is either "Rubenz" or "Rubeny".
148 Surname appears to be written as "Culleene", but might possibly be
"Culleeny".
156 Given name initial is either "P" or "J".
174 Last half of surname is not clearly written and cannot be deciphered with
certainty. Name is possibly "Maring", "Marwig" or "Mariny".
219 Surname is either "Bunking" or "Bunting".
