I, Neil Shannon Master of the Str Africa do solemnly, sincerely and truly sw??? (illegible) that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by Me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Str at L??pool from which port said Str has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

M^r W. C. Cattell The ISTG research team believes this passenger, W. C. Cattell, was a professor (chair) of Latin and Greek at Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cattell (W. C. Cattell, D.D.) eventually became president of the college and served in this capacity for over 20 years. Easton, PA, is located approximately 70 miles west of New York City and 60 miles north of Philadelphia, PA. He was also active in the founding and growth of Presbyterian churches in the area, namely the Second Presbyterian Church in Camden, NJ, and the Phillipsburg Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, PA. He is known to have preached in early 1857 in the Phillipsburg church. Dr. Cattell can be found in the 1870 census (Easton, Bushkill Ward, Northampton County, Pennsyvlania) where his occupation is stated as President of College and place of birth as Pennsylvania.
