Affidavit of the Master or Commanding Officer or First or Second Officer I II Officer of the Cincinnati from Genova do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that I have caused the surgeon of said vessel sailing therewith or the surgeon employed by the owners thereof to make a physical and oral examination of each and all of the aliens named in the forgoing Lists or manifest Sheets 29 in number, and that from the report of said surgeon and from my own investigation, I believe that no one of the said aliens is an idiot, or imbecile, or a feeble minded person, or insane person, or a pauper, or is likely to become a public charge, or is afflicted with tuberculosis, or with a loathsome or dangerous contagious disease, or is a person who has been convicted of or who admits having committed a felony or other crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or is a polygamist or one admitting belief in the practice of polygamy or an anarchist, or under promise or agreement express or implied to perform labor in the United States, or a prostitute, or a woman or girl coming to the united states for the purpose of prostitution, or for any other immoral purpose, and that also, according to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information in the said List or Manifests concerning each of said aliens named therin is correct and true in every respect. Zeaulieu, Surgeon of the SS Cincinnati sailing therewith, to solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that I have had 12 years' experience as a Physician and Surgeon, and that I am entitled to practice as such by and under the authority of the Yenusen Geouvineuh and that I have made a personal examination of each of the aliens named hereto, and that the forgoing Lists or Manifest Sheets 2 in number, are, according to the best of my knowledge and belief, full, correct, and true in all particulars relative to the mental and physical condition of such aliens. This Manifest copy is poorer than most, much is too light. It also seems to have been moved
while being microfilmed,as some of the bottom of it looks like a double focus.
This Manifest indicates the ship left Genova on 2 April, Naples on 3 April, and Palermo on
4 April. Page number, 46 is stamped on the top of the age column and at the bottom of the
given name column.
Recorders, often used the word d or ditto, which looks more like a division symbol. This
transcriber has replaced all dittos with the information as it written is on the manuscript.
The handwriting of all passenger names are different than all other columns on this page,
indicating two recorders filled this page.
Passengers 889, 892, 895, 896, 898, 899, 900, 901, 906, 911, 915, and 917 are lined out.
This usually means that these passengers were not on this ship. They do not have a check
before their surnames, between age and gender, or Final Destination as all other passengers
do. The nearest relative information is usually visible either below or above the line.
Transcriber has written in only what can be made out through, above or below a line. New
line numbers were hand written on this page, before the printed line numbers, they begin
with the number 211 and end with 240. Of 30 passengers written on this page, 18 made this
passage. Recorder wrote this final tally of passengers at the bottom of this page under
Nationality column. At the end of the page, below line is written 2 T, which may be the
number of Non Immigrants on the page.
The Italian language has no letter j, k, or w, x, or y. The letter h is only used with ch
or gh.

crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
fairly easy to read, and either above, below or through the line. Unlike other crossed
out passengers, all columns are written in. Last address has d for ditto from 889.
893 Brucato, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 215. Second word of
last address for passenger and father are different, for passenger it looks like Sol or
Sot, for father looks like Sall, Satt, Soll, or Sott, but wife of 894 shows it as Sottana
or Sattana. Nothing similar found for either word of city. This may be a small section of
the city or a town outside Palermo.
894 Fustaino, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 216. Last address
has d for ditto from 893. City of relative is written as Petralia Sottana or Sattana.

crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is

line, but maybe Tisrentino, as it looks similar to 895. Age is blocked by this line that
is thicker here and not able to make out any of it. There is also another triangular
shaped line above that, from the age to the gender. Nearest relative is written as Nobody.
Last address has d for ditto from 895. Unlike other crossed out passengers, all columns
are written in.
897 La Perna, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 219. Occupation is
thickly written over and difficult to read, the lighter word that was written before, but
looks like it ends in orea, the rest is not readable. The darker word maybe laborer but
looks like it ends in ker, maybe baker. Surname of wife is most likely her maiden name, as
was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.
898 Di Mau?o, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 220. Passenger is
crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
fairly easy to read, and either above, below or through the line. Surname maybe Di Mauro
or Di Mauzo. Marital status, occupation, able to read and write, nearest relative and
destination columns are blank. Only last address is written in, but is difficult to read
through the line. The first word looks like Caterina. The only similar one found is
Catania, Sicily. Second word looks like Acireale, only similar one found is also in
Sicily. Transcriber does not know if these two towns are near each other or a section of
a city.
899 Marano, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 221. Passenger is
crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
fairly easy to read, and either above, below or through the line. Marital status,
occupation, able to read and write, nearest relative and destination columns are blank.
Last address has d or ditto mark from 898.
900 Raciti, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 222. Passenger is
crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
fairly easy to read, and either above, below or through the line. Marital status,

hard to read, but looks to be Avan?ate, letter is not clear, but maybe Avanrato or
Avanzato. Surname of Father is written above the line, and looks more like Avauzato or
Avaurato, and his address is written the same as the passenger, with an sa at the end.
Age maybe 14, 17 or 19, line covers it. Last address looks like Ravanusa, none found,
only similar one is Ravenna which is in the north east. This recorder definitely has an
sa, at the end of the word. Unlike other crossed out passengers, all columns are written
in.
902 Lo ???soto, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 224. Surname is
written over to clarify, but does not do so. It looks like Lo Cunsoto. Last residence and
city of wife are not clear. For passenger it looks like Caltanis Caltonisset, but for wife
it looks like Caltanissilta, nothing similar found for any of these. City of destination
is spelled incorrectly by recorder, should be Schenectady.
903 Rubino, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 225. Stamped above
that is DEPORTED, and below that is written what looks like SI, indicating passenger was
held for a hearing. Boldly written over first letter of surname is an R to clarify the
first letter. Surname of wife is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian
women to use in that era. Recorder wrote his Y of NY and J of NJ similarly, only similar
city is found in NY.
904 Donato, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 226. Last address is
written as d or ditto from 903. Destination is written as Ills for Illinois.
905 Costanza, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 227. Last address is
written as d or ditto from 903. Surname of wife is not clear, but looks like Fucandola or
Funcaudola. Her surname is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian
women to use in that era. Destination city is written as above, most likely it is Jersey
City.
906 Simone, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 228. Passenger is
crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
fairly easy to read, and either above, below or through the line. Age is blocked by line,
but maybe 19 or 49. Gender is blocked by line, but is more likely to be male, as the
given name ends in e not a. Surname of grandmother maybe her maiden name, as was the
custom of Italian women to use in that era. First letter of her surname is not clear,
may be Fugrassia or Tugrassia. Destination, state of NY is not written, but has two
horizontal lines. Unlike other crossed out passengers, all columns are written in. It is
not clear if this passenger was included in the brackets of the three passengers below.
907 Simone, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 229. Stamped above
that is ADMITTED, and below that is written something, but it is unable to make out what
it is. Brackets are before line numbers 19, 20, and 21, ages, and nearest relative connect
these passengers. Surname of 908 has d or ditto from 907. In that and the given name
column is written Ch for child. But surname for 909 is written out. Age is not clear and
looks written over, it maybe 28, 18, 38, or 48. Last address is written as d or ditto
from 906. In the nearest relative column, the word Wife is written on the line for 907,
her name and city on the line for 908. Surname of wife maybe her maiden name, as was the
custom of Italian women to use in that era. Destination, state of NY is not written, but
has two horizontal lines. It is not clear if passenger 906 was included in the brackets of
these passengers.

written over to clarify, but does not. The letter looks like it may be an I, as in
Internicola. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
917 Barbera, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 239. Passenger is
crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
fairly easy to read, and either above, below or through the line. Age looks like 21, but
may be 24. Last address city is written as d or ditto from 916. Unlike other crossed out
passengers all columns are written in.
918 Ditta, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 240. Last address city
is written as d or ditto from 916. Surname of mother, first letter is not clear, may be
Asaro, and may be her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.
