Transcriber Notes:
* is for error by the original recorder or to note other information on the copy added to the
transcriber's notes.
? Transcriber unable to read due to the quality of the copy, letters are too small, written over
or elaborate writing.
This Manifest indicates the ship left Genova on 2 April, Naples on 3 April, and Palermo on
4 April. At the top of the given name column is stamped the page number 40. Stamped at the
bottom of the column is the number 40.
Recorders, often used the word do or ditto for some columns. Most passengers have dittos in
columns of Nationality, Race, passenger Last Residence, and Destination. Most towns of last
residence have written what looks like a division symbol, most likely a ditto mark from On this
page gender was written as mas or fem, for masculine and feminine. This transcriber replaced
all dittos and abbreviations with the information referred to.
Passengers 719, and 720 are lined out. This usually means that this passenger was not on this
ship. They do not have a check before their surnames, between age and gender, or Final
Destination as other passengers do. At the bottom of the page, in the country of origin column
is written 7 T. Transcriber does not know what this means. In the Final Destination column of
the first six passengers, all going to Canada, a thick line starts below the first passenger,
and back tracks diagonally to the sixth passenger. Before this line, also on the diagonal, is
written Canada, from the bottom up. All other passengers going to the same place have ditto
marks. New line numbers were written on this page before the passengers printed line numbers.
These begin with the number 31 to 60. From the second passenger to the sixth, these numbers are
not visible. Of the 30 passengers on this page 28 made this passage, as written by the recorder
at the bottom of the page.
The Italian language has no letter j, k, or w, x, or y. The letter h is only used with ch
or gh.
The passenger listing above is only one page of this manifest. Both may be seen on the Ellis
Island Web Site.

709 Speziale, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 31. Two brackets
connect 709, 710, and 711, one before the first three line numbers, another before given
names. The word wife is written before the given name bracket of 710, and son before the
given name bracket of 711. The bracket before given names looks to include 713, though
nothing is written before it. Last residence letters of town are not clear, maybe Racahento
or Racahunto, nothing similar found. This may be a small section of the city, or a town
outside it. The town is written on line of 709, ditto marks for 710 and 711. There is also
a bracket connecting 709 to 711 before nearest relative, Name of mother is written only on
line of 709, her address is on 710 line. Surname of Mother, letters are not clear and maybe
Martorana or Marturana. This is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian
women to use in that era. Final destination has ditto marks from 709. See transcriber notes
above about final destination column. At the end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non
Immigrant.
710 Rallo, before the printed line number is another hand written one, can only make out the
first digit a 3, but is probably 32. Two brackets connect 709, 710, and 711, one before the
first three line numbers, and one before the given names. The word wife is written before the
given name bracket of 710, and son before the given name bracket of 711. The bracket before
given names looks to include 713, though nothing is written before it. Surname of this
passenger is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that
era. Occupation last few letters are not clear. There is also a bracket connecting these
three before the nearest relative, which is only written on line for 709. The town is written
on the line for 710, and nothing is written for 711. Final destination column has ditto marks
from 709. For 710, only the town is written, and nothing is written for 711. Final
destination has ditto marks from 709. See transcriber notes above about final destination
column.
711 Speziale, before the printed line number is another hand written one, can. Two brackets
connect 709, 710, and 711, one before the first three line numbers, and one before the given
names. The word wife is written before the given name bracket of 710, and son before the
given name bracket of 711. The bracket before given names looks to include 713, though
nothing is written before it, can only make out the first digit a 3, but is probably 33.
Occupation is written Ch for Child. Marital status and able to read and write columns have
ditto marks. There is also a bracket connecting these three before the nearest relative,
which is only written for 709. The town is written on the line of 710, nothing is written
for 711. Final destination has ditto marks from 709. See transcriber notes above about final
destination column.
712 Rallo, before the printed line number is another hand written one, can only make out the
first digit a 3, but is probably 34. The bracket before given names looks to include 713,
though nothing is written before it. No other brackets include 712. Town of residence has
written what looks like d or plus sign, most likely a ditto mark from 709. Surname of wife
is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era. Final
destination has ditto marks from 709. See transcriber notes above about final destination
column.
713 Rallo, before the printed line number is another hand written one, in line number column,
can not read this, as the word ADMITTED is stamped over it, probably 35. Below stamp is what
looks like ST or the first letters of a word, the rest is very light and not able to read.
Above the surname are numbers looks like a date, 4, a diagonal line, the next number is
blocked by the first letter of the surname, then is a diagonal line and 13, most likely this
is the date of admittance. Age is written over, and not clear, maybe 15, can not make out the
numbers below. Town of residence has written what looks like a d or plus sign, most likely a
ditto mark from 709. Surname of mother is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of
Italian women to use in that era. Final destination has ditto marks from 709. See transcriber
notes above about final destination column.
714 Speziale, before the printed line numbers of all passengers is another hand written one, but
it is light, unable to read, most likely would be 36. Three brackets connect 714 and 715, one
before the first three line numbers, one before the given names, and another before nearest
relative. Only one bracket, before given name, seems to include 715, though there is nothing
written before it. Passenger 715 has wife written before it, there is nothing written before
714. Last residence, looks like a d or plus sign, most likely a ditto mark from 709. Surname
of Mother, letters are not clear and maybe Martoiana or most likely, Martorana. This is most
likely the maiden name of the Mother, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.
Surname of Mother is written on line of 714, her address on line for 715. Final destination
has ditto marks from 709. See transcriber notes above about final destination column.
715 Ippolito, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 37. Three brackets
connect 714 and 715, one before the first three line numbers, one before the given names, and
another before nearest relative. Only one bracket, before given name, seems to include 715,
though there is nothing written before it. Passenger 715 has wife written before it, there is
nothing written before 714. Surname of this passenger is most likely her maiden name, as was
the custom of Italian women to use in that era. Occupation was written over, looks like wife
was written more boldly over Domestic. Last residence, looks like a d or plus sign, most
likely a ditto mark from 709. Surname of Mother is written on line of 714, her address on
line for 715. Last address and final destination column has ditto marks from 709. See
transcriber notes above about final destination column. At the end of the line is stamped NON
IMM for Non Immigrant.
716 Butera, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 38. a bracket before
given names seems to connect from 714 to 716, but there is nothing written as to relationship
before this passenger. Since the last addresses are different, the bracket may have been just
a slip of the pen of the recorder. Occupation seems to have Countryman written over another
word, can not make it out. Only letters able to make out look like an f and th. Surname of
the wife is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that
era.
717 Bellia, before the printed line number is another hand written one. Can not make it out, due
to a stamp also in the line number column, the word ADMITTED. Below that is written what
looks like the first letters of a word, maybe SI, or maybe a number. It is not clear. This
may mean passenger was held for Board of Special Inquiry hearing. There is also a bracket
before the printed numbers connecting all from 717 to 722. a second bracket is before the all
the given names, and a third before final destination. Numbers are written from occupation to
able to read column, 1 a dash 135812 a dash, then 505. Other numbers or a word has been
thickly crossed out, unable to read it. These numbers are a verification for naturalization
purposes, usually done after 1926. The first number is a naturalization district number, the
second set is either an application number or the Certificate of Arrival number, there is no
date as is usual. The 505 is for a verification form, used to transmit manifest information
to the requesting INS office, indicating a verification or record check. Last residence looks
like after Palma is an M then what looks like a small o next to but near the top of the M,
and below that a small s or 3. This transcriber is not sure what this is. Nearest relative
is as written, no names or place are written.
718 Sciabbaico, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 40. Also in line
number column, the word ADMITTED is stamped, with a bracket before the printed numbers
connecting all from 717 to 722, and what looks like SI is written. This may mean passenger
was held for Board of Special Inquiry hearing. Surname was written over to clarify, but what
it is written over looks like a different name, more like Leiabbarrase or Sciabbarrase.
Another bracket connecting all is before all given names, the word wife is written for this
passenger. Surname maybe her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that
era. Numbers are written from occupation to able to read column, 1 a dash, 395689 a dash,
then like a date, 4 a diagonal line, 20 a diagonal line, 42 then a dash, and 505. These
numbers are a verification for naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first
number is a naturalization district number, the second set is either an application number
or the Certificate of Arrival number. Last set of numbers maybe the year and date the person
applied. The 505 is for a verification form, used to transmit manifest information to the
requesting INS office, indicating a verification or record check. Last residence is written
do or ditto from 717. Nearest relative has ditto marks from 717, no name or place are
written. Another bracket connects passengers before final destination.
719 Bellia, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 41, and in line number
column there is a bracket before numbers that connects all from 717 to 722. This Passenger
is crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is
hard to read, covered by the line, except for what is stated. Two other brackets connect all,
before all given names and final destination.
720 Bellia, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 42. In line number column
there is a bracket before numbers that connects all from 717 to 722. Passenger is crossed out
by a thick line. This usually means they did not board this ship. Most is hard to read,
covered by the line, except for what is stated. Two other brackets connect all, before all
given names and final destination.
721 Bellia, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 43. In line number
column, the word ADMITTED is stamped, with a bracket before that connects all from 717 to
722. Another bracket is before all given names, the word son is written before the given name
of this passenger. Most columns have ditto marks from 717. In occupation column letters looks
like C slash N is written, transcriber does not know what this means. It may have something
to do with a search for a Certificate of some sort. a third bracket is before final
destination.
722 Bellia, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 44. in line number
column, the word ADMITTED is stamped, with a bracket before connecting all from 717 to 722.
The word daugh for daughter is written before given name of this passenger. Most columns
have ditto marks from 717. From occupation to able to read and write column are numbers,
1 dash, 196180 dash, and like a date, 9 a diagonal line, 22 a diagonal line, 36. These
numbers are a verification for naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first
number is a naturalization district number, the second set is either an application number
or the Certificate of Arrival number. Last set of numbers maybe the year and date the person
applied. Nearest relative has ditto marks from 717, no names or place are written. a third
bracket is before final destination.
723 Papino, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 45. Final Destination of
Boston is written over on a diagonal. The only clear letters are ministe, passenger 726 below
looks similar, but is clearer, as Leominister, the correct spelling is Leominster. At the end
of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.
724 ?iaccabrino, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 46. Surname letter
is not clear and not like any other by this recorder, maybe a Z as Ziaccabrino or F as
Fiaccabrino. Last residence was written as d or a plus sign for ditto then written over, but
covered by the ditto symbol. Country is probably Italy and city Palma, but looks like Patma,
as the middle letter is crossed. Surname of Father is small, letters close together. Final
destination is also written over and looks more like Borido or Borito than Boston.
725 Dal??, before the printed line number is another one, a hand written one, 47. Surname is not
clear, maybe Dalii, Dalei, or Dalsi with what looks like an accent above one of the last
letters. Last address is written as do or ditto from 724. Surname of Father is not any
clearer than passenger, except that it ends in i.
726 Amato, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 48. Last address is
written as do or ditto from 724. Final Destination of Boston is written over as Leominister
on a diagonal, the correct spelling is Leominster.
727 Napoli, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 49. There maybe something
written above marital status, but it is blurry and illegable. Last address is written as do
or ditto from 724.
728 Galati, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 50. Brackets are before
line number, given names, and destination connecting 728 to 729. Between surnames and given
names a word is written on an upward diagonal line, but it is not clear. It begins dau, but
it looks more like daune than daughter. The given names bracket seems to include 730. Surname
of wife maybe her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.
729 Galati, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 51. Surname has ditto
marks from 728. Brackets are before line number, given names, and destination connecting 728
to 729. Between surnames and given names a word is written on an upward diagonal line, but it
is not clear. It begins dau, but it looks more like daune than daughter. The given names
bracket seems to include 730. Numbers are written from occupation to Nationality column, 7 a
dash, 116033 a dash, then like a date, 5 a diagonal line, 1 a diagonal line, 39 then a dash,
and 505. These numbers are a verification for naturalization purposes, usually done after
1926. The first number is a naturalization district number, the second set is either an
application number or the Certificate of Arrival number. Last set of numbers maybe the year
and date the person applied. The 505 is for a verification form, used to transmit manifest
information to the requesting INS office, indicating a verification or record check. Town of
residence has a ditto mark from 728. Surname of mother maybe her maiden name, as was the
custom of Italian women to use in that era.
730 Cala, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 52. Before given names a
bracket connects 728 to 729, but looks to include 730, however no other brackets include this
passenger. Numbers are written from occupation to able to read column, 5 a dash, ??5846 a
dash, then like a date, 5 a diagonal line, 21 a diagonal line, 35. These numbers are a
verification for naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first number is a
naturalization district number, the second set is either an application number or the
Certificate of Arrival number. Last set of numbers maybe the year and date the person
applied. The number indicated by ?? is not clear, partially blocked by the letters from
below, but maybe a 4, 41 or 11. Usually this is a six digit number, but this seems to be a
five digit number. The area between the larger number and the date seems to have something
else written there, but it is blurry due to the poor copy. Town of residence has a ditto mark
from 728. Surname of the grandmother maybe her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian
women to use in that era. Destination was written over, looks like it was from Cleveland to
Marion.

usually when the person applied. Town of residence has a ditto mark from 728. Surname of wife
maybe her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.

at all, first letter of city is also thickly written over, and looks like Tome, Torne.

something written over it, but it is not clear. Last residence was written over ditto from

end of the line is stamped NON IMM for Non Immigrant.

from occupation to able to read column, 9 a dash, 795?. The first number looks written over,

letters from above, but maybe an 0. Usually this is a six digit number, but this maybe a five
digit number. These numbers are a verification for naturalization purposes, usually done
after 1926. The first number is a naturalization district number, the second set is either an
application number or the Certificate of Arrival number. There is no year and date given,
usually when the person applied. Occupation has something written over it, but it is not
clear. Last residence, country column was a ditto mark from 728, but looks like it is written
over by another hand. It is not very clear, looks like Ilse Fortoria, but the city maybe the
same as the father.

for the wife. Surname of wife maybe her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to
use in that era.
737 Tilenni, before the printed line number is another hand written one, 59. Over surname a word
is written on the diagonal from the passenger below to 737. It looks like Pre and has an
oddly curved line before the given names of 737 and 738. Occupation looks to have something
written over it, but it is not clear what it is. Last residence has a ditto mark from 735
which is written over, but it may be a ditto mark from 728 which is the same town given for
the wife. Surname of wife, letters are small and not clear, and maybe Perasiliti. This maybe
her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.
