Affidavit of the Master or Commanding Officer or First or Second Officer I II Officer of the Cincinnati from Genova do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that I have caused the surgeon of said vessel sailing therewith or the surgeon employed by the owners thereof to make a physical and oral examination of each and all of the aliens named in the forgoing Lists or Manifest Sheets 29 in number, and that from the report of said surgeon and from my own investigation, I believe that no one of the said aliens is an idiot, or imbecile, or a feeble minded person, or insane person, or a pauper, or is likely to become a public charge, or is afflicted with tuberculosis, or with a loathsome or dangerous contagious disease, or is a person who has been convicted of or who admits having committed a felony or other crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or is a polygamist or one admitting belief in the practice of polygamy or an anarchist, or under promise or agreement express or implied to perform labor in the United States, or a prostitute, or a woman or girl coming to the united states for the purpose of prostitution, or for any other immoral purpose, and that also, according to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information in the said List or Manifests concerning each of said aliens named therin is correct and true in every respect. This Manifest indicates the ship left Genova on 2 April, Naples on 3 April, and Palermo on
4 April. Page number, 35 is stamped on the top of the given name column. Stamped on the
bottom of the same column is the number 35. Often for this ship, these numbers are different.
There is a large G or C T written in bold ink in the top right corner of the page.
When all pages of this manuscript have been transcribed and put on line, there will be three
extra lists added to the end, to include US Citizens, Detained Aliens, and Aliens Held for
Special Inquiry.
Recorders often used the word do or ditto for able to read, as most here are for columns from
nationality, race and country of origin. These are from the first line Passenger 589. Many
passengers also have dittos in columns of occupation, passenger and nearest relative
residences, and destinations. This transcriber replaced all dittos with the information
referred to. Gender was written as m for male, and f for femaile. Marital status was written
M or m for married and S or s for single. Maritial status was written M or m for married and
S or s for single. Transcriber uses the full word. In this manuscript the Occupation, Labourer
is the British spelling for Laborer. The recorder of this page wrote paisant for peasant, and
mistakenly Race as South, as most cities are in the north. Last addresses for passenger
include country and city or town. The first is usually a city and the second maybe the name of
a small section of or a village close to the city. This recorder also wrote the word, at,
with longer addresses for the relatives, but not for the passengers. Writing on this page is
small, sometimes hard to read.
Passengers 589 and 590 are lined out. This usually means that this passenger was not on this
ship. They do not have a check before their surnames, between age and gender, or Final
Destination as all other passengers do. Sometimes this information may be written in and is
readable, sometimes the columns may have ditto marks or maybe blank. This recorders
handwriting is small and difficult to make out. Of 30 passengers listed on this page,
28 made this trip, on the bottom of the page 28 is written.
The Italian language has no letter h, j, k, w, x, or y.
The letter h is only used with ch or gh.

ship. Most is hard to read, covered by the line, except for what is stated. Surname may be
Lattezari. First letter of given name maybe a C, but rest is not clear, maybe Candeda or
Caidida, Nothing similar found. Age, can only read the bottom of what looks like a 4, maybe
the second digit, rest is covered by line. Last address, city of passenger covered by line,
only the nearest relative city is not, but the letters are not clear. Looks like Bunzone,
Bruizone, or Bresszone, closest found is Bressanone.
590 ??????????, ???t??a, passenger is crossed out by a thick line. This usually means they did
not board this ship. Most is hard to read, covered by the line, except for what is stated.
Surname and given name are blocked by the line. Age looks like 2, but either there is no
other digit or it is not readable. Columns, from occupation to end have what looks like a
division symbol, perhaps a form of ditto. Usually passengers have do for ditto, but a child
passenger sometimes has this kind of ditto mark.
591 De Ranieri, age looks like it maybe 24. Last address has Italy written over something, not
sure, but it looks like Lucca. Race is written as South, maybe an error by recorder as
Lucca is in the north. Given name of mother is not clear maybe Elisa. Second word Gineto,
is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era.
After this is what looks like ni, French is nee, often used to indicate a maiden name is
given, it does not look like De or de, though it could be, in, as in the town of. Residence
of mother is S Maria del Giudia, and has Lucca written in parenthesis at the end.
592 Rossini, race is written as South, probably an error by recorder as Pesaro is in the north.
City looks like it begins with a T, as Tossombrone, atlas shows only Fossombrone.
593 Bucchi, age, first digit is unclear, looks like 31, but maybe 21. Race is written as South,
maybe an error by recorder as Pesaro is in the north. It is written as do for ditto from
the previous passenger.
594 Sacchini, in occupation column are numbers, first two are not clear, but look like 22 and
looks like it may have a dash, as most do, then 14029, or 14629. These numbers are a
verification for naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first number is a
naturalization district number, the second set is either an application number or the
Certificate of Arrival number. There is no date showing when it was done. Race is written
as South, maybe an error by recorder as Lucca, address of father, is in the north. Last
address, the end letters are written close together and run at an angle below the line, but
for the father is quite clear. Final destination looks written over very lightly and hard
to read, maybe Little Falls.
595 Puccinelli, recorders writing is unclear, surname looks like it begins with P, but may
begin with T as Tuccinelli. Age is not clear, maybe 24 or 26. Race is written as South,
maybe an error by recorder as Lucca is in the north. It is written as do or ditto from 594.
Given name of father, letters are not clear, looks like it maybe Giacobbe. Last address,
last letters are written close together, and run at an angle below the line, but for the
father is quite clear. Final destination has something very light written over the city,
either ditto marks or a letter or two above the last letters.
596 Peri, age is unclear, second digit maybe 15 or 16. In occupation column are numbers,
22 dash, then 38611, or 38671. These numbers are a verification for naturalization purposes,
usually done after 1926. The first number is a naturalization district number, the second
set is either an application number or the Certificate of Arrival number. There is no date
showing when it was done.Race is written as South, maybe an error by recorder as Lucca is
in the north. It is written as do or ditto from 594. Last address, the last letters are
written close together, and run at an angle below the line, but for the father it is quite
clear. Final destination has something very light written over the city, either ditto marks
or a letter or two above the last letters.
597 Desideri, age is written over, unable to read, maybe 24 or 23 or 3?, looks like someone
wrote a 4 lightly in second digit place. Race is written as South, and may be an error by
recorder as Lucca, is in the north. It is written as do or ditto from 594. Last address is
not readable, looks like Chi??ina or Chi?vi?a, none similar found near by, next word looks
like ?zzsn?se. Address of father, is a bit easier to read, but still not clear, looks like
Chi?sina, ?zzasese, but maybe ?rrasese. The writing of z and r for most recorders look
similar.
598 Baldacci, Race is written as South, maybe an error by recorder as Lucca is in the north.
It is written as do or ditto from 594. Last address is written as do or ditto from 597.
Surname of wife is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use
in that era. Her address is written out, but still not clear, looks like Chi?sina ?zzasese,

600 Parenzi, surname looks like it begins with P, but may begin with T as Tarezini. Last letter
of given name looks like an a, but is most likely an o, since gender is male and nearest
relative is wife. Age looks like 26 but maybe 25. Race is written as South, maybe an error
by recorder as Lucca is in the north. It is written as do or ditto from 594. Last address is
not clear, maybe Capannori, Capannsio or Capannvio. Address for wife is a bit clearer,

is Giorgio. Age seems written over several times, boldest writing is 4. a bracket between
given name and age columns connects 601 to 604. Words are written after the given names on
the diagonal, for 602 child, for 603 wife, and for 604 nephew. Written over given name of
603 is the number 2nd. It looks in a lighter hand, may have been an after thought. It may
refer to 602 as second child, or 603 as second wife. All columns for this passenger have
what looks like a division symbol, but maybe a different kind of ditto marks. In Race to
last address columns is written what looks like, Claims U S. Born.
603 Candelli, gender is written male, but with the given name and wife written after, it maybe
a recorders error. This is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women
to use in that era. a bracket between given name and age columns connects 601 to 604, words
are written after the given names on the diagonal, for 602 child, for 603 wife, and for 604
nephew. Written over given name of 603 is the number, 2nd. It looks in a lighter hand, may
have been an after thought. It may refer to 602 as second child, or 603 as second wife.
Occupation looks like home keeper. Race is written as South, maybe an error by recorder as
Lucca is in the north. Last address end letters are not clear, maybe Ponte Ruggianeri, as
for passengers 594 to 596. The relationship of relative maybe father or brother, and surname
looks like Cardalli rather than Candelli.
604 Zari, a bracket between given name and age columns connects 601 to 604, words are written
after the given names on the diagonal, for 602 child, for 603 wife, and for 604 nephew. Age
is unclear, maybe 15 or 16. Race is written as South, maybe an error by recorder as Lucca is
in the north. It is written as do or ditto from 603. Last address end letters are not clear,
maybe Ponte Ruggianerias for passengers 594 to 596. Given name of father looks like
Sebastiano but maybe Celestino.
605 Pellegrini, surname looks like it may begin with T, but a P is written above the letter, by
another hand. Age looks written over several times, second digit is definitely a 7, and
before column lightly written is 47. Race is written as South maybe an error by recorder as
Lucca is in the north. It is written as do or ditto from 603. Last address end letters are
not clear, maybe Ponte Ruggianeri as for passengers 594 to 596. Surname of wife is not
clear, maybe Cecchi or Cocchi. This is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of
Italian women to use in that era.
606 Pellanda, surname looks like it may begin with T, but a P was written above the letter, by
another hand. Age maybe 31 or 34, is written over from previous line, and seems to have
downward lines over numbers. Last address looks like Vicenza, an Italian provence. Town
maybe Terre or Tezze, recorders writing z and r are often similar.
607 Roggero, there is an X over passengers line number 19, and before surname, meaning passenger
was temporarily detained, see list of detained aliens at the end of manifest and transcript
notes for more. Age is unclear, looks like 611, but maybe 41 or 44, it also seems to have
lines written downward from age of passenger above. Last address letters are unclear, maybe
Lanziano or Lauriano, address of father looks more like the latter.
608 Belluo???ini, letters are small and unclear, surname maybe Belluonniri or Belluomini.
Occupation maybe carter but looks like cartzer and has an accent mark over the c, Italian
dictionary shows carta as paper. Last address of passenger looks like Carrari, but for
relative looks like Carrara, nearest found is Carrara. Surname of father also looks
different than passengers, looks more like Belluonimi.
609 Calori, a bracket between given name and age columns connects 609 to 611. The word chil,
likely means child or children, is written upwards on a diagonal after the given names of
610 and 611. Over occupation the word Wife is written in large letters. Race says South,
but Genova is north, maybe a mistake by the recorder. Last address, letters are small, close
together, passenger looks like Rio Sesto Gadano, address of father looks different, like Rio
di Sista or Lista a Gadano. Surname of father looks more like Calari. Destination is written
Call, most likely meant Cal for California, city maybe Lori or Loci.
610 Biosotti, a bracket between given name and age columns connects 609 to 611, the word chil,
likely means child or children, is written upwards on a diagonal after the given names of
610 and 611. All columns have what looks like division symbols, but maybe a different type
of ditto marks. Numbers are in columns from occupation to Nationality, a 22 a dash, 86898 a
dash, 505 a dash, a dash, then like a date, 5 dash 23 dash 40. These numbers are a
verification for naturalization purposes, usually done after 1926. The first number is a
naturalization district number, the second set is either an application number or the
Certificate of Arrival number. Last set of numbers maybe the year and date the person
applied. The number 505 is for a verification form, used to transmit manifest information to
the requesting INS office, indicating a verification or record check, most likely with the
date that was done. Destination is written as do or ditto from 609, Call, most likely meant
for California.
611 Bissotto, a bracket between given name and age columns connects 609 to 611, the word chil,
likely means child or children, is written upwards on a diagonal after the given names of
610 and 611. All columns have what looks like division symbols, but maybe a different type
of ditto marks. Destination is written as do or ditto from 609, Call, most likely meant
Cal for California.
612 Lambruschini, written diagonally in number column, from line 24 to 25, looks like S I. Below
that is another word or letters, not readable, because ADMITTED is stamped over it. This
means the passenger was temporarily detained, then admitted into port. S.I. written to the
far left of the manifest and before the name means the passenger was held for a Board of
Special Inquiry hearing, possibly slated for deportation. Additional information may be

between given name and age columns connects 612 to 613. The word niece is written on the
diagonal starting after the given name of 613 toward 612. Occupation is unclear, written
over, looks like written first as paisant, then written in another hand, maybe homemaker,
though it looks like ?orneater. Numbers are written from marital status to Nationality
column. First numbers are unclear either 22 dash or 221 dash, then 125139 dash, then like
a date 5 dash 29 dash 42. The first number is a naturalization district number, the second
set is either an application number or the Certificate of Arrival number. Last set of
numbers maybe the year and date the person applied. Race says South, but Genova is north,

that is another word or letters, not readable, because ADMITTED is stamped over it. This
means the passenger was temporarily detained, then admitted into port. S.I. written to the
far left of the manifest and before the name means the passenger was held for a Board of
Special Inquiry hearing, possibly slated for deportation. Additional information may be
found at the end of the manifest. See transcribers notes above for explanation. Over surname
the letters, zogni are written in another hand to clarify. Surname maybe Souzogini or
Sonzogni. a bracket between given name and age columns connects 612 to 613. The word niece
is written on the diagonal starting after the given name of 613 toward 612. Occupation
paisant is written over in lighter hand to labourer. Race says South, but Genova is north,
maybe a mistake by the recorder. Surname of wife, letters are small and close together, can
only make out first half, looks like it maybe Buiscunte or Buiveunte. It is most likely her
maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women to use in that era. Destination is written
as do or ditto from 610 Call, most likely meant Cal for California.
614 Bruzzone, age is unclear, maybe 27 or 29. Race says South, but Genova is north, maybe a
mistake by the recorder. Surname of wife is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom

most likely meant Cal for California.615 Bruzzone, numbers are above the surname, 259416 dash,
then like a date 3, a diagonal line, 31 a diagonal line, and what looks like 27. Below the
date is what looks like a letter or letters encircled, not clear, could be an m, n or un.
Usually these numbers are above the word in the occupation column. When in the occupation
column, they may be either an application number or the Certificate of Arrival number.
Last set of numbers may be the year and date the person applied. When above the surname
transcriber does not know what these are for. Age is unclear maybe 29, or 25. Race says
South, but Genova is North, maybe a mistake by the recorder. Surname of mother may be
Caleagni or Caleagno, and is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women
to use in that era. Occupation maybe a recorders spelling error for mason. Destination is
written as do or ditto, from 610 Call, most likely meant Cal for California.
616 Ferro, Race says South, but Genova is north, maybe a mistake by the recorder. Surname of
father looks like it begins with a T, rather than an F, is most likely Ferro. Destination is

617 Talco, Race says South, but Genova is north, maybe a mistake by the recorder. Last addresses
of passenger and mother are difficult to read. First word looks like S Villonia, then d with
an accent after it, then Libioli in, then either Leetz, Lectz, Leetri, or Lectri, and last
Laventi. Nothing close or similar found. This maybe a section of Genova or a small town
nearby. Surname of mother is most likely her maiden name, as was the custom of Italian women
to use in that era. Destination is written as do or ditto, from 609, Call most likely meant
Cal for California.
618 Nicolini, given name maybe Gio Balta or Gio Batta. Race says South, but Genova is north,
maybe a mistake by the recorder. Last address of passenger is written do or ditto from 617,
address of father is written out, difficult to read. It looks the same as 617, except the
last two words which look more like Sechi or Setri, and last Laventi, nothing similar found
with either spelling. This maybe a section of Genoa or a small town nearby. Destination is
written as do or ditto from 609, Call most likely meant Cal for California.
