Transcriber Notes:
* is for error by the original recorder(s) or to note other
information on the copy, added to the transcriber's notes.
? is for what transcriber is unable to read due to the quality of the
copy, letters are too small, written over, or elaborate writing.
This Manifest indicates the ship left Genova on 2 April, Naples on 3
April, and Palermo on 4 April. Stamped on the top of this page, in the
given name column is the number 27. Stamped on the bottom of the same
column is the number 31. The script on this page is darker than most,
and fairly easy to read. The top of this page shows Palermo, 4 April.
Recorders often used the word do or ditto for able to read; as all
here are for columns from nationality, race, to country of origin.
These are from the first line Passenger 411 to 421, then again from
422 to 438. Many passengers also have dittos in columns able to read
and write, occupation, passenger and nearest relative residences, and
destinations. This transcriber replaced all dittos with the information
it referred to. This manuscript uses the British spelling for the
occupation of Labourer; and Farm Laborer is written as Farm Lab.
Passengers 417, 418, 419, 424, 428, 429, 430, and 431 are lined out.
This usually means that this passenger was not on this ship. They do
not have a check before their surnames, between age and gender, or
Final Destination as all other passengers do. Of the 28 passengers
on this page, 20 made thepassage.
No town of address was written on this page for the nearest relatives.
On line 30, is written, V G Macantosh, Insptr, except 22 to 28, most
likely the name of the recorder. After that, in parenthesis is another
word or name, which is unable to read.
The Italian language has no letter j, k, or w. The letter h is only
used with ch or gh.
