I, Edwin Billinge, Master of the S.S. "W^m Penn", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said S.S. "W^m Penn" at London and Havre, from which Ports the said S.S. "W^m Penn" has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died. An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

The Occupation of every German passenger whether male or female, adult or child, or
infant, is listed as "Laborer". While no doubt many adult male passengers were Laborers,
it challenges the imagination to believe that not one of these more than 500 German
passengers is a "Farmer", "Clerk", "Miner" or other occupation common to immigrants.
Therefore, the recorded Occupations of the German passengers, should be viewed with
some skepticism.

1 Surname appears to be either "Hornett" or "Thornett".
9 Surname is recorded as "Milnie", but might possibly be "Milne".
13 Passenger's full Occupation is recorded as "Boat Builder". Surname appears to
be either "Cafferly" or "Cafferby".
14 There is damage to the manifest in the area of passenger's name rendering the
name entirely unreadable. However, it is likely that this passenger is the
wife of passenger number 13 so her surname would also be "Cafferly" or "Cafferby".
15 Surname appears to be written as "Cryle", but might possibly be "Coyle".
17 Surname is possibly "Grankey" or "Grantley".
29 Surname is recorded as "Maning", but might possibly be "Manning".
34-38 Surname is recorded as "Glahane", but might possibly be "Glenane".
42 Passenger's full Occupation is recorded as "Collar Maker".
56 Surname is recorded as "How", but might possibly be "Howe".
57 Passenger's Occupation is comprised of two words, the first of which is "Carriage",
but the second word is poorly written and not decipherable. The second word
appears to be two or three letters in length, and the last letter is "^r".
Perhaps the second work is intended to be "Driver" or "Maker".
75 Surname is either "Tomlin" or "Lomlin".
77 Surname appears to be "Lutemann", "Intemann", "Jutemann" or "Tutemann".
78 Surname appears to be either "Diers" or "Dierb".
82 Surname appears to be "Lutemann", "Intemann", "Jutemann" or "Tutemann".
95 Surname is either "Nordenholt" or "Nordenhott".
110 Surname is recorded as "McSweney", but might actually be spelled "McSweeney".
114 The passenger "Joseph T. Clegg" has two horizontal lines drawn through his name
and other recorded information. This usually implies that the passenger was not
aboard when the ship embarked. The information of another person, "John Williams,
Age 28, Male, citizen of England and destination New York" is written above the
lined out name of "Joseph T. Clegg", and this information too has two horizontal
lines drawn through it.
115 Passenger's full Occupation is recorded as "Engine Driver".
129 Passenger's Age is overwritten and cannot be deciphered. Age is possibly 6y9m,
7y9m or 9y9m.
132 Surname is either "Kleiners" or "Kleinens".
136 Passenger has the feminine given name "Barbe", yet her Sex is listed as "Male"
and with Occupation "Laborer", likely a recording error.
141 Passenger has the masculine given name "Gustav", yet is listed as "Female",
likely a recording error.
145 Surname appears to be either "Zunmer" or "Zemmer".
146-148 Surname is possibly "Weisenbord" or "Wissenbord".
152 Given name is recorded as "Jeseph", but might actually be spelled "Joseph".
Surname is either "Wiebel" or "Weibel".
153 Surname appears to be either "Riech" or "Reich".
159 Surname is possibly "Matleb", "Malleb" or "Mallele".

332 Surname is possibly "Broseus", "Brosius", "Broseces" or "Brosues".

163-169 The Blumer family was from the small town of Schwanden in Conton Glarus,
Switzerland. The town provided the Blumer family f 250 in assistance to help
them emigrate. The records are contained in "Verzeichnis derjeniger Personen
aus dem Tagwen Schwanden ausgewandert und Beitr�ge bezogen haben angefangen
im Jahr 1864" (Register of those persons from the town of Schwanden who emigrated
and received money starting 1864).
