Unknown Port Venezuela and Curacao to New York
9 July 1883

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, Samuel Hess Master of the Amer. S.S. Valencia, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Venezuela, Curacao, from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. Transcriber's Notes:

? = Approximate number of letters that are unreadable due to fading, smears,
    torn paper etc.
* = Attention to this Transcribers List.
^ = The following letter is superscripted

The Deputy Collector's signature is almost just a scribble. Very hard to read.
Ages (Ex. 35y7m) means person was 35 years and 7 months old.
The Column 'Date and Cause of Death' was left blank.
The Column 'Transient or intending protracted sojourn were all listed as 'Transient'.
Any blank in the columns was that way on the original.
 

  1 - Calling is very unclear. Possibly could be Depnitst
  3 - Actual Calling was 'Lieutenant Dutch Navy'
  3 - 5 -  Baggage was bracketed together
  7 - 8 -  Baggage was bracketed together
  9 - 10 - Baggage was bracketed together
 11 - 15 - Baggage was bracketed together
 15 - There is an umlaut over the u in Knucht
