DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, E L Tinklepaugh, Master of the Str "South America", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said Str South America at Rio de Janeiro, from which Port the said Str South America has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the Str South America whereof E L Tinklepaugh is Master, from Rio de Janeiro, burthen 2150 tons.
Columns represent: given name and surname, age, sex, the country to which they severally belong, the country in which they intend to become inhabitants, and the part of the vessel occupied during the voyage. Since all the passengers' Occupations are listed as "Unknown" and no one died during the voyage, these two columns are omitted in the transcription.

  A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that can not be transcribed 
  definitely.

  An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the 
  manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

  A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

  The transcriber numbers the passengers consecutively, even though they are not 
  numbered in the original manifest.


 11  Surname is recorded as "Daley", but might possibly be "Daly".
 21  Given name is recorded either as "Ja^s" for James or "Jo^s" for Joseph.
     Surname is recorded as "MacKay" or "Mackay".
 23  Surname appears to be written as "Mennda", but might possibly be "Menuda".
 24  Surname is recorded as "da Silvia", but might possibly be "da Silva". 
 30  Surname appears to be written as "Berlisa" or "Bedisa".
 32  Surname is either "Thorne" or "Thome".
