So help me God.
Sworn to this 15th May 1884. (signature unreadable)

Transcriber's Notes:
* indicates an error on the part of the original record or is used to call your
attention to additional information in the Transcriber's Notes.
? indicates letters or words that cannot be read due to the quality of the original
document, and is clarified in the Transcriber's Notes.
Location on Ship column, passengers #34-42, #54-59, #95-102, #152-162, #207-211,
#226-228,and #282 were unreadable due to hole in manifest. Some showed a ditto mark,
but it was not known what area that indicated.
In Transit/Transient column, passengers #39-47 and #53-105 were unreadable due to hole
in manifest.
Many first names are abbreviated by the manifest writer. Try Friedrich for Fried;
Wilhelm for Wilh; Wilhelmina for Wilh^e; Johann for Joh; Johanne for Joh^e; August
for Aust; Catherine for Cath^e; Heinrich for Hein; Reinhart for Rein; and so on.
Some location names are abbreviated by the manifest writer. Try Mecklenburg for
Mecklbrg; Wurttemburg for Wrtburg; Bavary is probably Bavaria.
1204 Country is partially faint and unclear; first letter is possibly S, third
letter is midline.
1206 Missing letters in surname are all mid-line, up and down motion.
1217 Occupation is probably 'daughter' to be consistent with others on list, but it
does not look like that word, and is not 'child'. Letters look like 'asniyttse'.
1219 Surname first letter is rounded, like a C; perhaps Cenny.
1225 The missing first name letter is a midline letter.
1227 Missing surame letters are all midline; possibly Rothearova.
1235 The surname is unreadable as it is smeared.
1242 Not sure of occupation. Could it be brewer with a malformed w?
1246 Surname is Beunrer or Beumer.
1258 First letters of surname as possibly Os, for Oszeyan.
1262 Surname is blurred, possibly Cuke.
1265 First letter of name is a line going up like a lowercase 'l' without the loop.
1280 Missing letter is covered by the f from the name above it, but I can tell it
does not go below the line.
1283 Age is hard to read. Could be 21, but line is thicker than usual; or bumps
show it could be 23, 26, or 28.
1284 Age is one digit, thick, probably same digit as last digit of passenger #1283,
so either 1, 3, 6, or 8.
1285 Surname is Warial or Wariab.
1300 Age looks like 95, but as that would be very unusual; the next closest number
it resembles is 35 if the 3 were made without the bottom curve.
1309 Age is too faint to read, but it is one digit in the months column.
1313 The first letter of the name is faint, but appears rounded, possibly C, or
Cidiainna or Aidianna.
1314 The first letter is faint and rounded.
1317 The missing letters are faint, possibly 'ns'.
1325-1327 The occupation is too faint to read the beginning; first letter hangs below the
line, second letter is a midline letter.
1330 First letter of surname looks like a lowercase cursive f.
1334 Last letter of first name may be a 'y'.
1338-1379 None of these passengers has a location recorded, and in fact the passengers
were renumbered beginning with 1. I have adjusted the numbers so the manifest
would have one numbering system. Possibly this means these were first class
passengers.
1338 The amount of baggage is a number that doesn't match other numbers, it looks
like a written 'f'.
1340-1341 The first letter of the surname loops from midway up to the left, over the top
and back down to the bottom of the line, and loops again up to the left to the
middle, touching just below where the pen stroke of the letter began originally.
The occupation of the male is possibly mercht, but cannot be positively read as
such.
1344 Surname is too faint to read, but missing letters are midline.
1345 First name's first letter is unclear, possibly L. Surname is same as passenger
#1344.
1346 Occupation is too faint to read center, possibly mercht (merchant).
1347-1349 Missing letters are too faint to read.
1350 Missing letters are faint but are initials, possibly AO, AC, HO, or HC.
1351 Missing letters are too faint to read.
1352-1354 Missing letters and numbers are too faint to read, and are blurred.
1358 There is a unreadable word in the Died column, ???d, probably says Died.
1361-1365 Missing letters are too faint to read; these are all the same surname.
1366-7 Missing letters are too faint to read.
1368 Letters are too faint to read; surname is possibly Dahl or Sahl.
1370 Occupation is faint, blurred and blotched.
1378 Country is unclear; possibly ??moma.
Correspondence January 17, 2008 - Passenger 1370 Echteler & 1371 Seybold
Josef Echteler is my mother's mother's father. His profession Personal
Sculpture to Kaiser Wilhelm and to me it looked like it was listed as
Sculpture on the original passenger list. He is traveling with my
grandmother age 5 on line 1371. Her name should read Marie Seybold
which is what I see when I read the original penned passenger lists.
He had 7 luggages and was traveling first class as was his daughter
Marie. I have not been able to locate his wife, Marie's mother on the
list.? On the original passenger list, the names are on page 5,
written on the page for first class passengers. Josef is #33 and
Marie is #34 on the hand penned passenger list. Again I couldn't locate
his wife, Dorathea Seybold Echteler. She should have been 26 years old.
If you have any questions you can contact me.
Thanks ever so much,
