I, R Albers, Master of the (blank) do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York is a full and perfect list of all the Passengers taken on board of the said S S Rugia at Hamburg from which port said S S Rugia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the location of the compartments or spaces of the said vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the dates, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each, also a true statement so far as can be ascertained with reference to the intentions of each alien passenger, as to a protracted sojourn in the country. So help me God.

Many first names are abbreviated by the manifest writer. Try Friedrich for Fried;
Wilhelm for Wilh; Wilhelmina for Wilh^e; Johann for Joh; Johanne for Joh^e; August
for Aust; Catherine for Cath^e; Heinrich for Hein; Reinhart for Rein; and so on.
Some location names are abbreviated by the manifest writer. Try Mecklenburg for
Mecklbrg; Wurttemburg for Wrtburg; Bavary is probably Bavaria.

My great-grandfather, Niels Jensen was born 6 June 1851 in Taaning Parish, Skandeborg Amt, Denmark, to Miss Laura Randlev. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Jens Markusson, in Yding Parish with 4 half-siblings. In 1873 he married Agnetta Nielsen in Tyrstad Parish, Vejle Amt. They had 6 children in Taaning Parish (2 died in infancy), and 5 more children in Racine, Wisconsin (Walter, Anna - my grandma, Adolf, Tekla, and Harry). The parents and 4 children immigrated in 1884, and as far as is known, went directly to Racine. Niels was a well-respected fish merchant in town. He died at age 59 on 13 September 1910. We know little of Agnetta, but she met Niels while working on a farm in Denmark in 1871; she died on 7 June 1897 at age 44 in Racine.
The children who immigrated were born in Taaning Parish: Niels Lauretz Jensen, born 1874; died at age 21 in 1895 in Chicago, Illinois. Clara Jensine Laura Jensen, born in 1877; married William B. Voth; died in about 1930. Christian Randlev Jensen, born 1879; married twice, Sibyl Fuller and Daisy Dell; US Navy veteran during the Phillipine Insurrection; died in 1934 in Waukegan, Illinois. Nielsine Adeline Tyra Jensen, "Lena", born in 1883; married Frank Steckel in 1906; first homesteaded in Shoshone, Idaho, and then moved to southern California; died in 1965 in South Gate, California.
