DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, R Albers, Master of the (blank) do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York is a full and perfect list of all the Passengers taken on board of the said S S Rugia at Hamburg from which port said S S Rugia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the location of the compartments or spaces of the said vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage and the dates, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each, also a true statement so far as can be ascertained with reference to the intentions of each alien passenger, as to a protracted sojourn in the country. So help me God.

Location on Ship column, passengers #34-42, #54-59, #95-102, #152-162, #207-211,
 #226-228,and #282 were unreadable due to hole in manifest. Some showed a ditto mark,
 but it was not known what area that indicated.
In Transit/Transient column, passengers #39-47 and #53-105 were unreadable due to hole
 in manifest.
Many first names are abbreviated by the manifest writer.  Try Friedrich for Fried;
 Wilhelm for Wilh; Wilhelmina for Wilh^e; Johann for Joh; Johanne for Joh^e; August
 for Aust; Catherine for Cath^e; Heinrich for Hein; Reinhart for Rein; and so on. 
Some location names are abbreviated by the manifest writer.  Try Mecklenburg for
 Mecklbrg; Wurttemburg for Wrtburg; Bavary is probably Bavaria.


600-601  Missing letters in surname are midline letters hidden by a crease mark.
    604  Missing letters in surname are a midline letter and a tall letter.
    607  Occupation is missing two midline letters.
    609  First name is scrawled, possibly Kr.
    617  First name is Carl or Danl.
    618  Missing letter in first name looks like a v, r, or t. Occupation and country
         are obscured by a crease.  Country probably is Prussia or Russia by looking at
         the parts of the letters that are visible.
    619  Country is the same as passenger #618.
623-624  First letter of surname is unclear, may be an H or W. Has a squiggle in the top
         left, straight line down, small loop to left continuing with a horizontal line
         at the base of the line to the right, a space, and a vertial line that goes from
         top to bottom of line.
    626  Surname has an umlaut.
    654  Occupation unreadable, but is two words.
    655  Occupation possibly says Author.
    657  Surname has umlaut.
    673  Occupation is 'frn'; no idea of meaning.
    674  Name and occupation are creased from fold and unreadable.
    689  Occupation appears to say 'zigler'; no idea of meaning.
    698  Surname is Poleska or Paleska.
711-722  Location on ship in crease, possibly A, B or D.
    711  Missing surname letters are all midline.
712-713  Missing surname first letter is round, possibly A or O.
    716  Missing letter in first name is possibly an 'h' or a 'u' (with curved marking
         over it).
721-722  Surname is Haugen, Hauger, Kaugen, or Kauger.
    723  Occupation is as spelled, probably means Coachman.
    729  First letter of first name is unclear, it is a high rounded arch shape.
    736  Letters of first name are covered by the lower swing of the 'g' in the name
         above it.  Name could possibly be Martin. 
    737  Died on Voyage column says "died of ?????s May ?".  It is faint and very small
         writing.
    753  There is a faint, barely discernable mark where the first letter would be.
756-757  Occupation is to faint and small to be read.
    760  Age is faint, but either 7 or 9.
    761  Age is faint, but either 6 or 8.
    768  Surname is possibly Voge; it is written in the crease.  The occupation is also
         mostly unreadable because of the crease.
    781  The third letter of the first name goes up in a sharp point and back down;
         fourth letter may be an 'n' or 'ee'.
    797  First name is possibly an abbreviation for Jorgan.
    805  Age is too faint; it is written ?/12 (fraction).
810-811  Occupation is too faint and blurred.
    812  First name is too faint to get all the letters.
    813  Age is too faint to read.
    814  Ending of first name appears to be 'ldz' (Matheldz).
    816  First name to too faint to get all the letters.
819-823  Country is too faint, it is not Prussia; doesn't appear to be Russia.  Almost
         like Rumania or Pomerania, but doesn't seem to be either.
    830  Occupation is as written, probably means 'scholar'.
    831  First name is possibly an abbreviation of Valentin.
    844  Middle of last name is cut off at the bottom, possibly by a fold in the paper.
         I think there is a midline letter and a tall letter missing.
    846  Occupation possibly says ?earmaker; could be gearmaker.
    848  Occupation is as written; probably means coachman.
    849  First name is possibly an abbreviation of Jorgen.
    867  First name is too blurred to read all letters.
    869  Occupation is as written; probably means coachman.       
    871  Occupation too faint to read all letters.
    872  The missing surname letter is a midline letter.
    887  The missing occupation letters are midline letters.
    890  The surname begins with an unclear letter(s), possibly St, D or L.
    891  The name is dark and blurred; possible guess is Anton Gripp.
893-900  Surname could be Frost but vowel looks like an 'a'.
