The column "Died on the Voyage" was not used on this transcript. Although there were passengers who died on the voyage, the information was not entered in this column. Ages on this manifest used fractions of years rather than months. The formatter has changed these fractions to months per ISTG rules. On the original list, an occupation was written and then a line was drawn down the page until there was a different occupation and sometimes no occupation was given. There was no differentiation between men, women, children and infants as to occupation. This transcriber has eliminated the occupations for children under 10 years and infants. 16 Passenger did not come in the ship. 20 Passenger died May 28 of consumption 66 Passenger died April 30 in Havre 98, 99 Written notation that these two passengers are sisters 260 Passenger did not come in the ship. 332 Passenger died 19th May with croup. Transcriber's Ancestor passenger #267 SEIB Jacob Seib was born in Heubach, Hesse Darmstadt, Germany on September 11, 1834. He was the son of Anton Johann and Katharina Weber Seib. Jacob’s occupation was that of a shoemaker and he is listed in the Pittsburgh City Directories from 1854 to 1900 as a shoemaker and merchant. Family lore tells that Jacob made boots for Andrew Carnegie. On January 27, 1861, Jacob married Anna Martha Albert, the daughter of Heinrich and Elizabeth Schade Albert of Kurhessen, Germany. Also in 1861, Jacob became a member of the German Evangelical Protestant Church on Smithfield Street in Pittsburgh. Here he served as a member of the Board of Trustees during the construction of the new church. Note: This church still exists as the Smithfield Congregational Church. Jacob died on October 16, 1914. He is buried at the Smithfield East End Cemetery in Pittsburgh. Jacob and Anna Martha had 12 children: Amalia, Elisa Emilia, John Karl, Anna Maria, Lisse, Edward F., Anna Katharina (Katie), Charles, Frieda, Rosa, Marie Mathilde and William J. Seib. Of these, only four, Frieda, Rosa, Marie and William survived them. I am the great granddaughter of Jacob Seib. His daughter, Anna Katharina Seib Berg was my maternal grandmother. Patricia Martin Kennedy Correspondence added November 18, 2008 Passengers #8-16 and #18-33 ALLGEIER Good day and thanks for all that you have done, and continue to do. You have no idea (well, perhaps you do) how much your work has empowered people and have made it very easy to search for their roots, online. Thanks again! Here is information about my ancestors who were aboard the ship as well as the other passengers from the same town in Baden. I have the correct spelling of the surnames; for as usual, the spelling on the ship manifests are just like the spellings on the census records.... usually wrong and spelled the way it was heard. My e-mail address which I would like to have attached for those who might like to chat about their ancestors is: TAllgeyer@aol.com (My stories will concern passengers #8-16 and #18-33. They all hail from the same village in Baden called Gamshurst. In 1973, this village was incorporated with the larger city of Achern.) I will start with passengers #29-#33 first: #29 Altgaier, Octave. The correct spelling is Allgeier, Octavian and he was born on the 5th March of 1824 in Gamshurst, Baden, Germany; the son of Ignatz Allgeier and Magdalena Volz, oldest of 9 children. Magdalena Volz, Octavian's mother is noted as passenger #33 below. On the 28th of November 1850, he married Victoria Schuh in Gamshurst, daughter of George Schuh and Ottilia Hafner. Octavian was a farmer by trade and while residing in Gamshurst, 3 boys were born: Ignatz, Joseph and Nicholas, but one son, Joseph, passed away as an infant in 1852. Octavian and his family requested permission to leave Baden in accordance with the local laws and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and landed in New York on the 1st of June 1854. They first settled in Mercer County, Ohio in Fort Recovery and later moved south to Ludlow, Kentucky which is just opposite Cincinnati, Ohio, where they settled permanently by 1862. Octavian and Victoria had 13 children, 6 who married and raised their own families: Ignatz, Joseph, Nicholas, John, Mary Magdalen, Joseph, Anthony, Patrick, Teresa, Rose, Mary Clara, Frank, and Barbara. Octavian's name appears regularly in the Ludlow, Kentucky section of Covington, Kentucky city directories after 1881. Octavian maintained his Catholic faith and was a member of Saint Boniface Catholic Church until his death in 1897. He lived to the age of 73 and is buried in Saint John's Cemetery in Fort Mitchell Kentucky, where one can find the obelisk marking his grave to this day. He changed the spelling of his last name to ALLGEYER, changing the "i" to a "y" once he arrived in the USA. Octavian is my great great grandfather. Timothy Lawrence Allgeyer TAllgeyer@aol.com #30 Altgaier, Victoire. The correct spelling is Allgeier, Victoria and she was born Victoria Schuh on the 28th of December 1828 in Gamshurst, Baden, Germany and was the 9th of 10 children of George Schuh and Otillia Hafner. As noted above in passenger #29, she married her husband Octavian Allgeier in Gamshurst on the 28th of November 1850, and her history follows that of her husband above. Victoria lived to the age of 65 and passed away in 1893 and is buried next to her husband in Saint John's Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. In an account taken directly from one of the local newspapers (Kentucky Post) of the day: "Saint Boniface Church was packed this morning by the many friends of the late Mrs. O. Allgeyer, who came to pay their last respects to the dead. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Kramer. The funeral cortege was one of the largest that ever passed through the city." Victoria Schuh Allgeyer was my great great grandmother. Timothy Lawrence Allgeyer TAllgeyer@aol.com #31 Altgaier, Ignau. Correct spelling is Allgeier, Ignatz (Ignatius), but was known as "Notz" Allgeyer in his adult life. Ignatz was born on the 24th of August 1851 in Gamshurst, Baden, Germany. His early history is the same as his parents above in #29 and #30, and when the Railroad came to Ludlow, Kentucky he went to work for them and remained employed his entire life, where he was ultimately was a foreman there. Ignatz married Elizabeth Lankheit of Missouri in Saint Boniface Church in Ludlow, Kentucky on the 6th of September 1882. Together they had a total of 7 children: Mary Caroline, Frank, John, Alphonse, Johanna, Joseph, and Cecilia. Like his father above, one can find Ignatz in the Ludlow section of the City directories of Covington, Kentucky after 1881. Ignatz lived a long life and passed away at the age of 79 in 1930. He is buried in Saint John's cemetery in a plot not far from his father (#29 above) and brother Nicholas (#32 below). Timothy Lawrence Allgeyer TAllgeyer@aol.com #32 Altgaier, Nicolas. Correct spelling is Allgeier, Nicholas. Nicholas was born the third son and child of Octavian Allgeier and Victoria Schuh (#29 and #30 above) on the 16th of October 1853 in Gamshurst, Baden, Germany. He was only 7 months of age when he entered the United States on the 1st of June 1854 through the port of New York with his parents and family. Family lore has it that during the trip over the Atlantic Ocean, it was believed that Nicholas passed away as an infant. As his body was being prepared for burial at sea, he began to move around and cry in the body bag put together for it and was immediately pulled back into the safety of the ship. His early history is the same as his parents and like his brother before him (Ignatz, #31, above) worked for the railroad once it came to Ludlow, Kentucky. Nicholas was a carpenter and eventually was a foreman there. He married Frances Konermann of Ludlow, Kentucky on the 25th of October 1882 in Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Ludlow, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Henrich Heinrich Konermann and Anna Margaretha Kruse. Together they had a total of 6 children: Octavian Andrew, Teresa, Caroline, Nicholas (born in 1888), Frances and Leo, and they resided in Ludlow their entire lives. In 1914, Nicholas sustained a horrible railroad accident and lost both legs below the knees, and consequently was forced to retire, but was able to get around with Ludlow with his artificial legs until his death at the age of 75 in 1929. He is buried in Saint John Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky in the family plot just off the narrow road in the older section of the cemetery towards the front. The plot is clearly identified with the ALLGEYER name on the stone. Nicholas is my great grandfather and his son, Nicholas, who was born in 1888 in Ludlow, is my grandfather. Timothy Lawrence Allgeyer TAllgeyer@aol.com #33 Volz, Madelaine Correct spelling is Volz, Magdalena. She was born in Gamshurst, Baden, Germany on the 24th of March 1792, the 5th child of Bernhard Volz and Maria Anna Meyer. She grew up in Gamshurst and married Ignatius Andreas Allgeier in Gamshurst on the 16th of June 1823. Together they had a total of 9 children: Octavian (# 29 above); Bernadine (#25 above); Patriz; Clemens; the triplets: Adam, Albert, Maria Eva, who all passed away as infants in 1829; and then Matthias and Patriz. Ignatius Allgeier, her husband of 28 years passed away in 1852 in Gamshurst, and she emigrated with her oldest son Octavian and his family and her oldest daughter Bernadine Allgeier SCHUH, and her family. They all arrived in New York on the first day of June in 1854. She originally resided in Mercer County, Ohio with Octavian's family as indicated on the 1860 census of Ohio, but eventually settled with another son Matthias in Hamilton, Ohio, when Octavian moved south into Ludlow, Kentucky. She lived with Matthias' family the rest of her life. She passed away at the age of 87 on the 2nd of February 1880 and is buried in Saint Stephen's cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio, in the large plot of Matthew Allgeyer, clearly marked with a large upright stone. Magdaline is marked with a stone that says "Mother" and has the dates of her life under it. Magdalena Volz would be my great great great grandmother. Timothy Lawrence Allgeyer TAllgeyer@aol.com
