Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) after the passenger number means that there is additional information
below in these Transcriber Notes on that number.
A question mark (?) indicates an unreadable letter which will be explained.
A caret (^) indicates that, as part of an abbreviation, the intervening letters are
missing, and that the letter following it has been raised above the line.
The original recorder abbreviated forenames differently.
The original recorder did not number his list, but this transcriber added them for
your ease in referencing to the exact locations.
The original recorder wrote out Male and female, but to save room m and f were used
instead.
All spelling, capitalization (or lack thereof), and misuse of Country belonging to or
intending to inhabit, were those of the original recorder.
Between 40 and 41 there was a black strip possibly three nanes in width running
completely across the page.
A bark/barque is a three or four masted vessel who were all rigged with square sails,
except for the aft one that had a boom on it.
The Paraguan was built in 1864 (in) London. (She was) 251(feet in length, and) 32(feet
at midship, and weighed)1444 gross tons. (This is different than burthen which
measures weigh-bearing capacity. She was of iron construction, had 3 Masts (to save coal), a Clipper bow(thus she also had a foresail), 1 (Smokestack), a single
(propeller which generate) 10 knots (which would mean the passage took about 25 days. She could accomodate 500 (so was only 17% ofthat on this voyage. She first sailed to
South America (hence her name) until the Company closed in 1869. (She then sailed)
London, Harve, New York until 1871. (Making this one of her last voyages.)
Except for my 13 in ( ), rest is from The Ships List.
