Ship Ocean Queen
I, A. Spencer, Master of the Ship Ocean Queen do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said ship at London from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So help me God, A Spencer.
Sworn to this 5 July 1855
Before me H Callman DC
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the ship Ocean Queen, whereof Spencer is Master, from London, burthen 1182.21 tons.
Columns represent: Names, Age (years/months), Occupation, The country to which they severally belong, and the part of the vessel occupied by each passenger during the voyage. All passengers except the first two (see Transcriber's Notes) were intending to become inhabitants of the United States so that column was left blank. There were no deaths noted so that column is left blank.

Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder or is used
to call your attention to additional information in the Transcriber's Notes below.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that were omitted or could not be read due to
quality of original document or penmanship of original recorder.
The use of a caret (^) indicates that the next letter is superscripted by the original
recorder.
* Passengers were not numbered on the manifest; numbers have been added by the transcriber.
* The Occupation column was left blank for all Cabin Passengers.
* The original manifest shows a large blank space between the listing of the D Cabin
passengers and the Steerage Passengers.
* The age column of those passengers listed as "infant" is left blank. Three others
listed as "son" or "daughter" (numbers 39, 43, and 220) are also left blank.
1-2 Horden and Scott - Listed Canada as the country of which they intend to become
inhabitants.
13 Edward Charles Cook - "Cook" is written in at an angle (squeezed in), and the
ditto marks for the next four people are directly under "Charles", suggesting
that the family name is "Charles". Since nothing is listed in the Occupation
column, possibly Edward's occupation was "cook", maybe the ship's cook.
22-23 Louisa and Henry Rea?? - Surname could be either Ream or Rearn.
39 Maria Brigden - Age column left blank.
43 John Oyens - Age column left blank.
47-51 K?ss - Could be either Koss or Kass.
70 C?rey - Could be either Corey or Carey.
87 Barnett Caster - Sex not listed.
93-129 "lower d" may represent lower deck.
132-172 In the column marking the location of the passenger on the ship, "Cabin" is
preceeded by a letter that could be "V", "D", or "2".
132-136 Gay?or - The original recorder put a flourish backward on the end of the
letter "r" which went back over the middle letter, making it a "t" or "l";
so the name could be either Gaytor or Gaylor.
155 Ann Bryan - "John" was originally written in, then crossed out and "Ann" written.
171-172 Simmpson - The original recorder wrote "Thompson", then crossed out "Tho"
and wrote "Sim" above it.
176 ?etherstone - Could be Netherstone or Fetherstone.
220 Maria Schmidt - Age column left blank.
224 Mich Freund - In occupation column "daughter" crossed out and "Brother" written in.
227 Anna M Freund - In occupation column both "daughter" and "son" written in and then
crossed out.
229 Peter Freund - "Infant" placed in Sex column.
230-232 ditto marks used by original recorder under the previous entry in Sex column
makes the sex of all of these men "Infant".
242-243 Baer - In Sex column "M" written in, then crossed out.
234 Schumacker - No given name listed.
249 Louisa Dore - The original recorder listed her occupation as "child", but she may
be the mother of the next 5 passengers.
