Zons from Lank Transcribers Notes: There is no sworn statement on this list--only a listing by yearly quarter of passengers arriving in the port of New Orleans. A ? indicates indecipherable material. An * indicates a footnote in the Passenger Notes. A ^ indicates superscript. The column for country of origin lists a country for one person and then no other entry until there is a change; therefore, I have entered it just as in the original list. This list enters all males first and then the females, making it more difficult to connect which are families traveling together. This list from the National Archives and Records Administration (Microfilm M272) has been compared to a list found in a monograph which can be found in the Ostfriesen Genealogical Society of America library at Forest Lake MN. The monograph is titled: "From Bremen to America in 1850: Fourteen Rare Emigrant Ship Lists" by Clifford Neal Smith, Monograph No. 22 in the German-American Genealogical Research Series (ISSN 0094-7806), published by Westland Publications, McNeal, Arizona, 1987. In the preface to the monograph, Mr. Smith states that the information comes from an . . . obscure weekly newspaper from Rudolstadt, Thuringia (Germany) entitled the "Allgemeine Auswanderungs-Zeitung," devoted to news about ship sailings ... The newspaper can be found in the Beinecke Rare Book Collection of the Yale University Library. Discrepancies between the NARA list and the monograph list are mentioned in the Passenger Notes. Name spellings vary from one list to the other--again, because it cannot be determined which list is most correct, I have included all the variations to facilitate research. Keep in mind that the monograph list spells out all umlauts, so any ae, oe, or ue combination of letters probably indicates an a, e, or u umlauts which one would find in modern spellings and on maps. The monograph states that the ship left Bremen on 24 August 1850. 1 Traveling with Georg Schonnebeck. 2 Monograph lists name as Georg Schonnebeck, traveling with Franz Roehr. 3 Monograph lists name as Jac. Kremer and says traveling as family of three. 4 Seems unlikely for an infant to be traveling alone--does this one belong to the previous entry #3 and though the name lookes like Reimer on the NARA list, could it actually be Kremer? 5 Monograph lists name as Wm (Wilhelm Simeon from Herzberg. 6 Monograph lists name as Joh (Johann) Kauertz from Linn. 7 Monograph lists name as Louis Wichler from Reuss. 8-12 Monograph lists name as Jos Pfeil traveling as a family of 8 with August Schmitz. 13 Monograph lists name as J. P. Schmitz, family of five from Nierst. 14 Monograph says he is traveling with Joseph Pfeil. 15 Monograph lists name as E. Schwethelm traveling as a family of three. See also passenger 177. I don't find a third family member. 16 Monograph lists name as C. Hutmacher and NARA list may be Hatmacher. 17-18 Monograph lists name as Puetz indicating an umlauted "u" in Putz, also says traveling as a family of six. See passengers 178-180. 19 Monograph lists name as M. Schilling though the NARA list looks like it is Schillins or Schillms. 20 Monograph lists name as J. P. Schmitz (given name on NARA list looks like it may be Peter. Monograph also says traveling as a family of five. 22 Surname may be Poepges (Popges), place of origin Suechteln. 24 Monograph lists name as Jos Stapper and says traveling as a family of twelve and H. Kuehlmann (see passenger #28)and passengers 25-27 and 183-190. 28 Monograph lists name as H. Kuehlmann (i.e. umlaut over the "u" in Kuhlmann) and says he is traveling with Joseph Stapper. 29-34 Monograph lists name as Ruetgers, i.e. an umlaut over the "u" in Rutgers. See also passengers 191-193. 35-36 Monograph lists name as H. Hoerschgen, i.e umlaut over the "o" in Horschgen, and traveling as a family of 6. See passengers 194-197. 37-38 Monograph lists surname as Dohmen. 39-41 Monograph lists name as Kluener, family of five (see passengers 200-201). 42 Monograph lists name as P. Echtenbroch traveling with P. Charge & J. Jaeger (see passengers 45 and 46). 43 Surname looks something like Cues or Ceres. Perhaps this is the Clemens Zerres of Neuss traveling with W. Hueper (i.e. umlaut over the "u" in Huper)and traveling as a family of four (see also passenger 217). 71-74 Monograph lists name as H. N. Baettger from Juda. 275-277 Monograph lists name as Gaetjen (umlauted "a" in Gatjen). Also, supposedly from Goldenstaedt and traveeling with F. Thiecke ?. 278-279 Surname looks something like Laben. 283-284 Most likely D. Fruechting, as listed in the monograph. See passenger 141. 285-287 Monograph lists name as Niederfeld, family of six (see passengers 142-144, plus J. Hotho, passenger 288. 288 Monograph lists name as J. Hotho and travellng with C. Niederfeld ?. 289-290 I believe this is the J. Bierhorst family of four (traveling with others) as listed in the monograph, and from Dahlinghausen. A. Klauber on the Ocean Queen to New Orleans, was my Great Great Grandfather. His name was Abraham Klauber, a Jew from Bohemia, He was age 19 at the time of departure from Bremen. He went to St. Louis, then Ottawa Ill. Then New York, from NY to the Gold Rush in California in 1851 aboard the �Northern Light� to Nicaragua. Had Stores in Sacramento, Volcano CA, Genoa NV, Carson City, Virginia City NV and finally ended up in San Diego in 1868. Had a very long life, with many children and was very prosperous.
