DISTRICT OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, A. B. Braes, Master of the S S State of Nebraska do solemnly,
sincerely, and truly state that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by
me to the Collector of Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and
perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said S S at Glasgow and Larne, from which
port said S S has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex and
the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each
during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location
intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers
who have died on said voyage, and the dates, and cause of death, and the names and ages of those
who died; also, of the pieces of baggage of each, also a true statement, so far as can be
ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger, as to a protracted sojourn in
this country.

Transcriber's Notes:
An asterisk (*) is used to denote items that are further explained in the Transcriber's
Notes.
A question mark (?) is used to denote letter or letters that are missing or could not
be read. Where possible a suggestion of what this could possibly be is listed in the
Transcriber's Notes.
The column regarding Died on Voyage was eliminated, since there were no passengers
recorded as having died on the voyage.
This manifest appears to have been folded in thirds lengthwise and then in half crosswise.
There has been some extreme wear and tear, which has resulted in the paper being torn or
worn away at the creases. This has removed the ages in many cases and the number of
pieces of baggage in others. These areas, if unable to be read, contain a question mark.
The lister used a small squiggly line in the baggage column, which seems to indicate that
the passenger had no baggage, or that it was included with the passenger above, as in the
case of families. The transcriber left this blank.
Sex has been abbreviated as M (Male) and F (Female)
Abbreviations for occupations are Lab (laborer) and Serv (servant)
14 Age: possibly 8 years
30 Surname possibilities: Webster, Welisher
36-40 Surname possibilities: Hanischan, Hannchan. The page torn where the age of 39 is
but it appears that the last digit would be a number with a circle loop as "0" or
"8", "2", "3"
43 & 44 Surname: either McCloskey, McClaskey
48 Surname possibilities: Pohak, Pahak, Poleak, Paleak
56 Surname possibilites: Gilks, Gicks
64 Surname possibilities: Collins, Callins
80 Age: It is not possible to see if there is a number before the 4-page has been torn.
She is either 4 or 14.
83 Surname is ripped away - probably McNeil, McNeill, or McNeilly
86 Surname has been torn away, as well as the age
87 Surname has been partially destroyed by a tear. Possibilities: Parkin, Parkins
89 This is partially obscured by a tear. Possibilities: McClemmons, McClement
90 Age: Either 22 or 32.
95 & 96. These names are in an area that is extremely deteriorated. Could the name
possibly be Mullin, Mullins, or Muller
100 This surname is definitely a ditto to the above - Kelly, but the first name, which
is very well deteriorated may be Theresa.
101 This surname has been torn away, but it can be presumed that he is part of the
above family, since the passenger was an infant, and going to Boston, and had no
baggage.
102 It is not possible to see if there are any further letters in the surname, since the
page is destroyed.
111 This name is clearly "Kaig", but one wonders if it should be McKaig.
118 Given name: The lister has a diagonal line going forward and a superscripted letter
which looks like "r". Name could be Kathleen or Katherine
138 Could given name actually be Charles?
167 Given name: Jas (James) or Jos (Joseph). This child seems to be traveling with
166, since he has no luggage.
174 The missing letter could be "r", or a letter which goes above the line, as "k", "l".
The document is ink-smeared here. His age appears to be 11 years and 6 months.
Name possibilities: Hanle, Hanke, Hanre.
179 Given name: Jas (James) or Jos (Joseph)
180 Age: Either 31 or 36
185 Surname: Umlaut over first "u".
188 Occupation: It appears something was written over something else; what can be seen
is "teacher", but the original occupation began with an "L".
192 Surname: An inkblot obscures part of this name. Could it be Stankewitz? 190 is
a similar name.
193 Surname: An inkblot obscures the first letter, but an upstroke is seen, as the
lister writes "W". Possibly the name is Waschilewski. Could he be travelling
with 203?
194 Age: 22 or 32
197 Country from: Galicia, part of present day Poland
198 Surname: Seiglin, Sieglin
203 Surname: It is not possible to know if there are other letters in the name, as
the paper has been worn away. Could he possibly be traveling with 193?
211 This surname has been partially obliterated, as it is on the cross crease of the
page. The first missing letter could be a "b", "f", "h", or "l", since the loop goes
up and that part is clearly seen. What comes after the "w" cannot be seen. Possibly
the name is Drahowski or Drabowski??? Age could be 20 or 30.
212 This name is entirely worn away. Unfortunately, 213-216 are dittoes to this
surname.
