I, Henry Davis Cutting, Master of the S.S. "Helvetia", do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said SS "Helvetia" at Liverpool and Queenstown, from which Ports the said Vessel has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said Voyage and the names and ages of those who died.

Transcriber's Notes:

A question mark (?) indicates a letter or a number that cannot be transcribed
definitely.

An asterisk (*) indicates either difficulty in deciphering the handwriting of the
manifest or something in the Transcriber's Notes to which the reader should refer.

A caret (^) indicates that the following letter in a word or name is superscripted.

The transcriber numbers all the passengers consecutively 1 through 1202, even
though the recorder of the original manifest numbered the 1st Cabin passengers 1
through 23, and the Steerage passengers 1 through 1179.

The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates given names by writing the first few
letters of the name, then skipping letters and then writing the final letter as
superscripted. In these cases, the transcriber uses the symbol (^) to indicate that
the following letter is superscripted, i.e., Tho^s for Thomas, Sam^l for Samuel,
Cath^n for Catherine, W^m for William, etc.

If a passenger preferred not to disclose his/her Age, the recorder includes either
an "a" or "c" in the Age column indicating "Adult" or "Child", respectively.

The recorder of the manifest often abbreviates a passenger's Occupation, such as
"Merch^t" for "Merchant", "Lab^r" for Laborer, "Serv^t for Servant and "Inft" for
Infant.

The entry "United States" in the native country and destination country columns
is shortened to "U. States" for formatting reasons.

The Orlop deck is the lowest deck of a ship having at least four decks.

11-13 Passengers' names are obscurred by damage to the manifest.
14 Surname is recorded as "Whilfield", but might possibly be "Whitfield".
39-41 Family surname is recorded both as "Edgerly" and "Egerly".
76-78 Surname is recorded as "McQueemey", but might possibly be "McQueeney".
99 Surname is possibly "Huline", "Hulme" or "Huhne".
100 Surname appears to be written as "Slani", but might possibly be "Slane".
110 Surname is posssibly "Joel", "Ivil" or "Ivel".
133 Surname is recorded as "McLaughlan", but might possibly be "McLaughlin"
or "McLoughlin".
194 Surname is recorded as "Whalen", but might possibly be "Whelan".
197-203 Surname is either "Hartwell" or "Hartnell".
218 Surname is recorded as "Sweeny", but might possibly be "Sweeney".
225 Surname is recorded as "Shiels", but might possibly be "Shiel" or "Shields".
240 Surname is possibly "Gillon", "Gillen" or "Gillan".
256 Surname is recorded as "Gibbin", but might possibly be "Gibbon" or "Gibbons".

listed as "Female", possibly a recording error.
299 Surname appears to be written as "Lorensen", but might possibly be "Sorensen".
