Liverpool, England to New York
25 January 1858

DISTRICT OF NEW YORK - PORT OF NEW YORK
I, John Leitch, Master of the R.M.S. "Europa" do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by Me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said vessel at Liverpool from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died.

There were no deaths recorded on this voyage and this column has been omitted.

The handwriting of this manifest was very poor. Extra research should be undertaken 
to confirm genealogical findings.

All ditto marks on the original manifest have been replaced with the actual words 
indicated.

The manifest did not include psgr #s; they have been added by the transcriber.

13  1st number of age not clear because of crease in manifest paper, could be 28y 
    or 38y.
14  Middle name illegible because of handwriting; Age illegible because of condition 
    of microfilm.
15-16  The recordings for these psgrs is virtually illegible because of darkening of 
    the adhesive tape repair.
19  End of first name, or title, illegible.
20  Occupation illegible because of handwriting.
21  Last letter of surname not clear because of handwriting and slight damage to 
    manifest paper, could be Waller or Wallet.
24  Ending of surname illegible.
26  Ending of surname illegible.
28  Surname illegible because of handwriting and overwriting, could be McGibben or 
    McHibben.
29  Surname illegible because of handwriting and stray mark on paper; 2nd letter 
    extends below the line ('y'?), remaining letters do not extend above or below 
    mid-line.
30  3rd letter of surname obscured by stray mark on manifest.
31  Occupation illegible.
